03About Automotive News Europe

Automotive News Europe Congress • June 20 – 21, 2012 • Monte Carlo • Monaco

Dear Delegate,

We welcome you to the 15th annual Automotive News Europe Congress in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The European automotive industry faces a number of challenges in 2012 – many it cannot control. Austerity programs, debt reduction and political unrest have Europe on edge, just as European automakers and suppliers benefit from increased sales and production in emerging markets and a recovery in North America.

The issues in 2012 are numerous and complex: There is a continued need for capacity reduction; fuel efficiency standards are tightening; and the sales rate in Europe’s biggest markets is slowing.

We hope this Congress will help provide some insight and answers as we bring it to Monte Carlo. At the Congress you will hear from leading automotive executives who will provide a comprehensive look at the big issues facing the industry. Special sessions will concentrate on mobility and the future of retailing in Europe. This year we are also pleased to recognize the 2012 European Automotive News PACE Award winners, present the third annual Automotive News Europe – AIC L.E.A.D.E.R. award winners, the Automotive News / PwC European Shareholder Value Awards as well as the 2012 Rising Stars.

We are grateful to our exclusive lead sponsor, Ernst & Young. We extend a sincere thank you to our Congress diamond sponsors AIC, DHL and MSX International; platinum sponsors Dana, Bologna and Qatar Motor Show; and silver sponsors, Bertone, CHEP, PwC, SIEPA, Invest in Macedonia, TRW and Volvo.

Please also join us in our lounge, located in the hotel foyer, where you can test our newest product – the Automotive News Europe Global Monthly, an e-book-based PDF publication that focuses on the hottest stories in the industry – and all available on your iPad or computer.

Enjoy the Congress and please join us in Istanbul, Turkey next June 12 – 14 for the 16th annual Automotive News Europe Congress.

The second annual Rising Stars Awards ceremony will take place on June 20th in Monte Carlo, Monaco at Sporting Monte-Carlo, Salle des Etoiles.

The Rising Stars Awards is a program honoring those auto-motive executives in middle and upper management whom are likely to become the ‘Eurostars’ of tomorrow, together with the companies who are nurturing that future leadership talent. These ‘Rising Stars’ are already setting the agenda for the in-dustry of tomorrow and stand to reap the biggest rewards over the next decade.

Launched in 2011, Automotive News Europe’s first Rising Stars award program was a huge success, drawing more than 250 guests to Cologne, Germany last June. The winners came from all disciplines – designers, engineers, financial bosses and pro-duct planners – and from companies across Europe, including Volkswagen, Ferrari and Aston Martin, to name just a few.

A ‘Rising Star’ is an automotive executive with a pan-European profile, distinguished for having driven change, fostered inno-vation and made courageous decisions. To qualify, candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of work experience, have multiple language skills, be 45 years or younger. We accept no-minations from carmakers, suppliers, automotive service pro-viders and retail/aftersales businesses.

THAT GUARANTEES SIGNIFICANTLY

HIGHER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND

DEALER REVENUE.

Today’s customers are more diverse, with

higher expectations and a lower sense of

focus and consistency coupled with the

ability to precisely analyze their needs. ACF

synergizes all vehicle and customer data

provided by dealers or OEMs to ensure that

customers are addressed with relevant

messages at the right time in the right places.

The result is higher turn-over value per

customer as well as a reduction of marketing

spend and an increase in profitability of up

Theme: Managing the (un)expected

in an age of complexity -

an integrated approach towards

recall campaigns

Recall programs may be as old as the automotive industry it-self, the circumstances in which they occur have changed dra-matically. The single largest challenge the industry is confront- ed with today is the speed at which information spreads via news sites and social media. Faced with this external pressure, a fast and effective operational response, backed by timely and to the point communication is critical to protect brand image and customer satisfaction. Theme: Customer for life –

The Aligned Customer Framework

Today’s customers are more diverse, with higher expectations, a lower sense of loyalty and massive amounts of information at their fingertips. Satisfying their requirements demands focus and consistency coupled with the ability to precisely analyze their needs. OEMs and retail networks can transform these disadvantages into a strength with a customer-centric optimi-zation and technology program that synergizes all vehicle and customer data to ensure that relevant messages are delivered at the right time in the right places. The result is real customer added value, reduced marketing spend and increased profita-bility.

Panel Session II: The future of retailing in Europe

Automotive retail experts will discuss the challenges arising from today’s consumer-driven market and how they plan to profit from new retail opportunities. In particular, they will discuss the following issues: How will new block exemption rules and online sales channels influence European retail strategies? Will dealers experience added freedom and recognize the opportunities for increased revenue margins or will the new rules create even more obstacles to making a profit? How can the internet and social media be leveraged to get people excited about vehicles and what does a dealer need to do to turn that enthusiasm into sales? What winning strategies are currently being used to keep customers coming to dealerships despite tough economic conditions in much of Europe?

2012 WINNERS OF THE ANE – AIC L.E.A.D.E.R. AWARDS

Standing for Leaders in European Automotive Develop-ment, Excellence and Research, the annual L.E.A.D.E.R. award is presented to three European companies by the editors of Automotive News Europe in association with the executive team of the Automotive Intelligence Center (AIC) in Bilbao, Spain. The award goes to a manufacturer, a supplier and a retailer in the automotive sector in re-cognition of outstanding product development, achieve-ment and dedication to the industry.

In the previous two years, Automotive News Europe and the AIC jointly awarded the prestigious accolade to Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Peugeot, Bosch, Tenneco and Zipcar.

ANE and the AIC are now proud to present the 2012 L.E.A.D.E.R. AWARD WINNERS. These companies will be honored at the Automotive News Europe Congress in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on June 21. Read on to find out what makes these companies outstanding enough to warrant special recognition.

OEM Category: BMWFor its commitment to the research and deployment of lightweight materials and technologies in the vehicle, such as the CFRP monocoque structure featured in its upcoming i range. The goal is to decrease fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions while maintaining or even improving vehicle chassis stiffness and classic BMW handling and performance.

Supplier Category: AutolivFor its outstanding financial results in FY11, estab-lishing record sales and continuous growth figures, thanks to its innovative technological solutions in both passive and active safety systems. An example of such innovations is its Night Vision system, an infrared camera that detects people and objects ahead in the darkness, warning the driver of the possible obstacles so that they can be avoided.

Retail Category: RenaultFor its innovative retail strategy in its zero-emission vehicle lineup. The battery in Renault‘s electric vehicles is not sold but rented to the consumers for a fixed monthly amount, depending on mileage covered, thus reducing the cars‘ starting prices compared with other EVs on the market.

Join us for the fourth annual L.E.A.D.E.R. AWARDS CEREMONY on June 13, 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey!

Louisiana Economic Development

Louisiana’s software development incentive – the most aggressive in the nation – is just one example of how the state is creating a competitive environment for the automotive industry. The incentive reduces automotive companies’ payroll costs through cash back rebates for the design and development of embedded software in the infotainment, powertrain and transmission, chassis control, and body and comfort segments. The incentive offers a 35 % cash rebate for resident labor expenditures and a 25 % cash rebate for production expenses, with no minimums, no sunset date and no caps on expenditures.
