Andover Elementary School Pre-K -2nd grade Curriculum Night

Mr. [email protected]

WELCOME!

• This PowerPoint presentation will give you a guideline of the topics, units, discussions and items that your child will learn during their year(s) with me in the early childhood grades (prek-2nd).

• This PowerPoint presentation, along with many other resources is available on our AES PE Website: https://sites.google.com/site/andoverelementarype/

The major responsibility of the Physical Education Curriculum is the emphasis on developing a planned, developmentally appropriate, on-going, and systematic program of physical activity, which will help students to make effective choices relating to wellness, now and throughout their lives. Our Physical Education Program will include a focus on individual needs; psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains. It will offer equal opportunities for each child, as well as encouraging students, to take responsibility for their own physical well-being. The program will encourage in students a lifelong commitment to maintain optimal levels of physical fitness, along with developing an appreciation of all sports and physical activity. Some skills that are primary focuses of pre-k are:

Units of Study:

Fall:• Sharing, responsibility, taking turns, cleaning up and putting away

equipment, etc. (affective domain curriculum – practiced and interwoven throughout the entire school year.)

• Personal and shared space concepts

• Locomotor Movements – walking, skipping, galloping, skipping, etc.

• Dancing as exercise and fun! (“Animal Actions”, “The Freeze”, “Following Directions”, etc.)

• Ball Skills

obstacle course)• Nutrition/healthy food choices

Additional items of interest

• PROPER FOOTWEAR:• Students are required to wear sneakers on gym

days. This is for both safety and performance. UGGS and CROC’S ARE NOT SAFE FOR PE.Students will be considered unprepared for P.E. and are not allowed to participate in class that day. Students are graded on a 1-5 basis everyday they come to class. Please help your child to remember. Lack of proper and safe footwear negatively affects your child’s grade.

NOTES

• INJURY’S AND ILLNESSES: PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT CHILD BRINGS IN A DOCTORS NOTE IF THEY ARE INJURED OR UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE FOR ANY REASON. IN ADDITION, YOUR CHILD ALSO NEEDS TO BRING IN A NOTE FROM THE DR. WHEN THEY ARE CLEARED AND ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AGAIN. THANK YOU!

Class Rules• CLASS RULES AND PROCEDURES:• Rule # 1 – Self Control• Having self control is a major part of class whether it’s with your

body, the equipment or your emotions/feelings, you must display self control.

•• Rule # 2 – Common Sense• THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!!• Students know what is expected of them and they know what they

should and should not be doing. If you have to question whether you should do something or not….you shouldn’t!!

• If you are unsure of what to do, ASK!

Class Rules continued• AES Physical Education Rules• Stop, look and listen when you hear the signal.• Show good sportsmanship by playing fairly, following the rules, being honest, and

TO YOURELF!!!• ALWAYS REMEMBER SAFETY!!• Make sure you ask for permission to leave the gym and/or playing area and let me

know when you have returned.• PLAY HARD! PLAY FAIR! PLAY SAFE! HAVE FUN!!!
