A Home for Performing Arts at Brewster Academy Learn More. Do More. Be More.

At Brewster Academy, students bring the arts to

life. Whether on the stage, in music ensembles,

or in dance productions students and faculty

collaborate to create performances of all varieties,

taking the audience along for the ride. With a long

tradition of arts education, Brewster is preparing to

renovate Anderson Hall to create a true home for

the performing arts and a center of community and

connection.

“When I came to Brewster, I found myself drawn

to the sense of community within the BA Arts.

Painting, Sculpting, Acting, Dancing, Singing…they

have all left me with something and helped me shape

my growth as a human being.”

—Taylor Cantrall ‘13

For many Brewster students, the arts serve to

challenge their assumptions, help them to make

connections to other academic areas and to the

community, and oftentimes see the world and

themselves in a new light. For others, the arts

help them to find their voice, an ability to express

themselves, and explore newfound interests or

talents. At Brewster, arts education is a key aspect

of our mission to educate the whole student.

Currently, Brewster students are able to take

any number of performing arts courses including

theatre, music (choral and instrumental), and

dance – all under the direction of accomplished

faculty. Studio, visual and media arts classes are

curriculum, offering all members of the Brewster

community ways to express themselves through art

practice and performance.

To support the continued growth of the arts at

Brewster, the Academy seeks $2.5 million to

expand and renovate Anderson Hall, creating a

state-of-the-art performance venue that will meet

the Academy’s needs and provide students with

opportunities to advance not only their performing

abilities, but also their knowledge and skills in

producing theatre through learning lighting and

sound techniques as well as set design practices.

By maintaining the integrity of the original church

structure, the renovation designs capitalize on the

history of this old church while also bringing it into

the 21st century to better serve the educational

and performing needs of the Brewster community.

This will be a welcoming space for Brewster and the

wider Wolfeboro community, and will better connect

the building to Brewster’s lake-side campus.

“This project will have a significant, resounding

impact on the entire Brewster community. Not only

will a new facility provide a home for the performing

arts, it will heighten the experience of all the

students, both performers and audience members.”

—Guinevere Boston, Drama Faculty and Building

Committee Member, Brewster Academy

The renovated and acoustically sound ceiling, new

theatre-style seating, as well as the catwalks and

updates to the stage represent the most critical

updates to Anderson Hall. These alterations to

the space will not only enhance the experience

for the audience, improving the sound quality,

comfort, and visual impact of performances –

they will also significantly improve the learning

experience for generations of Brewster’s talented

students.

“Our family loves Brewster because there are so

many ways for students to excel and blossom as

students, athletes, artists, and citizens. The robust

arts program at Brewster has so much potential

that remains untapped due to infrastructure

limitations. There is so much talent on the BA

campus. As a school community, we need to find

a way to maximize the arts opportunity for every

current and future student.”

—Laureen and David Hadley (Olivia ‘12, Juliet ‘15)

Creating this much-needed permanent home for

Brewster’s performing arts programs will allow

the students and faculty to continue their growth

and exploration of various types of performance.

A successful project will allow the Academy to
