The Bushy Park Homestead, native forest and its bird life is one of Wanganui’s hidden gems.

Bushy Park Trust and the Rotary Club of Wanganui North have formed a partnership to upgrade and extend the facilities around the Wetlands pond below the homestead.

Not only are the Bushy Park Wetlands a “must do” when walking the park’s many tracks, but the Wetlands are integral to the LEOTC education programme.

The Bushy Park Education Group has established a self-guided programme for primary schools to follow with the emphasis on enhancing the unique benefits of the Bushy Park Sanctuary.

Already the track from the homestead down to the Wetlands has been upgraded and resurfaced, and a new track has been formed through the bush, around the northern side of the pond.

The next step is to build a wooden raised boardwalk through the pond area. This will give the visiting public an uninterrupted view of this beautiful tranquil area surrounded with it’s native bush landscape reflecting on the water. The boardwalk will allow the ever increasing, visiting school groups, to easily observe the many water creatures and bird life.

The 60 metre long boardwalk will be built with Rotary assistance, to a high standard and requires substantial funding.
