Continued from page 1Monument DedicationTexas gained its independence, 33 Gonzales Rangers and Republic veterans founded Walnut Springs and soon changed the name to Seguin the next year to honor Juan Seguin who had fought for independence. In 1842 the Republic of Texas organized Guadalupe County as a judicial county, however the Texas Supreme Court declared judicial counties to be unconsti-tutional. It was not until 1845 and the annexation of Texas by the US that the state legislature established Guadalupe County from parts of Bexar and Gonzales counties. It was originally 862 square miles but lost land with the creation of Blanco and Wilson counties in 1858 and 1874 respectively leaving 715 square miles.

As Guadalupe County is bounded by Cibolo Creek between Bexar and Guadalupe, and the San Marcos River between Caldwell and Guadalupe, it has an ever-changing boundary that has been affected by the 500-year flood event of 1998 and the 100-year flood event of 2002.

Bill Etheridge of CDS Muery was instrumental in establishing the location for the Chapter. He ran the boundary in several programs. We then took those coordinates and ran a triangula-tion between the points to find a location that would be suitable for such a monument as not to be disturbed and to be visible by the public. I would like to thank Butch Evans for his hard work and determination to attend the public meetings and commissioners court meetings to get this approved. A special thank you to all of our sponsors for donating to the monument cost – Bettersworth Engineering & Surveying, Butz Land Surveying, CDS Muery, Civil Engineering Consultants, Double S Paving, Fred Sinclair, RPLS #495, Gaylord E. Reaves, RPLS # 3501, H.A. Kuehlem Land Surveying, Jack C. Evans, RPLS # 1529, M&S Engi-neering, Maverick Land Surveying, Pape Dawson Engineers, Sherwood Surveying & SUE, Tri-County Surveying and Unintech Consulting Engineers.

Our chapter and TSPS did receive some publicity from the event with myself and President
