WELCOMEDear Traveller,

I am delighted to unveil our new Hidden Cities programme for 2016. Within the pages of this brochure you’ll find some extraordinary experiences. In Istanbul we have after-hours access to the Hagia Sophia – standing under the great dome of the basilica above you, lustrous in the soft light. In Venice, sip your aperitif in the Church of Madonna dell’Orto, surrounded by Tintoretto’s masterpieces.

I have been lucky enough to accompany dozens of wonderful Andante tours. It is hard to imagine an experience to match the one I had on our Hidden Rome tour in 2015. In the Vatican Archives, home to miles of papal records dating back over 1000 years. Here we were treated to a fascinating tour by young priest and archivist. Just as we were due to leave, our host (who had a flare for theatrics) asked if we would like to see just one more document? It turned out to be the original letter from Henry VIII to Pope Clement requesting an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon – a spine shivering moment.

So, I will leave you to rifle through the pages at your leisure – the secret histories, finest cuisine and splendid hotels of Europe’s cultural capitals. Don’t miss our new Hidden City tours to Venice, Athens and Istanbul.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch with our wonderful office team.

Behind the grand Renaissance architecture, the city is laid out on Roman lines - a ‘town plan’ that is over 2,000 years old. To truly glimpse this ancient legacy you have to delve beyond the usual marble monuments and descend beneath the modern streets. Spend five nights in the very heart of Rome, in a prestigious 5* deluxe family-run hotel, minutes away from the vibrant Piazza Navona. The hotel lobby is its own museum – with paintings, sculptures and a valuable collection of Picasso ceramics on display. You’d be hard pushed to find a better spot - the Pantheon, Spanish Steps and St. Peter’s Church can all be found just short steps away. Stop at the rooftop restaurant to enjoy panoramic views of the Eternal City. Each room is equipped with a bath or shower, TV, and air-conditioning. WIFI is available at an extra fee.

Our culinary highlight is dinner at La Pergola, the only restaurant in Rome to have been awarded three Michelin stars. The renowned luxury hotel restaurant serves incredible gourmet Italian cuisine, complemented by unforgettable city panoramas from its roof. People often say: when in Rome, eat like the locals... well, we really do on tour. Roman cuisine is based on seasonal ingredients, prepared in a simple way. Kissed by the waters of the northern Adriatic, the city of Venice is a jigsaw of low islands, grand canals and labyrinthine streets. Join us and explore ‘La Serenissima’ a city of mists, dark winding corridors, sudden bridges and canals.
