Chairman’s MessageIt is time again for me to welcome you all to this our 43rd annual pantomime: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After a very successful 2013 production, I’m sure this year will be too.
Each year we nominate a charity to donate to and this year our chosen charity is Homestart. I’m sure you will help to support this worthy cause.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the performing members, backstage crew, front of house staff and especially my committee, for all their hours of hard work.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that next year’s pantomime will be Sinbad and his Eighth Voyage, which will be produced and directed by Ken Dawson. Visit our website www.base-panto.com for further details and if you reserve next year’s tickets early and pay by 31st October 2014 you will get them at this year’s prices.
So sit back and relax as we transport you to the magical land of song, dance and laughter which are perfect ingredients for a fun pantomime night out. Remember, ‘It’s behind you!!’
One final note, I would like to mention our musical director and pianist ‘Auntie Joan’ Broadhurst as she has decided to retire from ‘tinkling the ivories’ with B.A.S.E.
William Hughes, our drummer, is also retiring this year - and has been involved with our pantos for many many years.
Joan is a founder member of B.A.S.E. and has been our musical director and pianist since 1972. We will all miss her magical personality and musical talent. We wish her and William well in their retirement.
Martin Goodall Chairman
A word from the ProducerThank you for coming to see our 2014 production of Snow White. After having a year out I am back as producer.
I welcome my assistant Ken Dawson and wish him all the luck with next year’s Panto when he takes over as producer for the 2015 production of Sinbad.
As usual there are too many people to thank individually who have supported me with this show. I have been very lucky to have such a dedicated team who have had some great ideas - from our choreographers Sam and Jo, to my new assistant Ken.
We will be ending the show on a very sad note this year as our musical director Joan has decided this will be her last panto. How will we ever replace such a wonderful pianist?
Last of all thanks to all of you for coming to see this fantastic production - I hope you enjoy it and see you next year!
Lynda Freeman Producer & Director
Hello, Just a little note from me to say thankyou for supporting B.A.S.E. again this year. Huge appreciation to Lynda for stepping back into the producer’s shoes during this transitional period. Much respect to the members of our company this year for their professionalism coping with all the changes to cast, songs, and sections of the script.
We’re like proud parents to witness once again what can be achieved through hard work and the love of Panto. And....finally: come back to us for Sinbad in 2015...Oh no you won’t, Oh yes you will!!!

Good Luck with Snow White

If you’re a parent or maybe a grandparent, you know just how tough family life can be at times.
And we know it too. Our volunteers, who have parenting experience, help families with all sorts of problems, from the everyday to the overwhelming. You could be playing or reading with the children to give mum a break, helping the family to get out and about to a group or the library, assist with attending health appointments or provide a listening ear and words of comfort and understanding. The only thing we can’t do is babysit or clean!
As a volunteer you need to complete an 8 session training course then have just 2 hours spare a week to provide emotional and practical support to a family.
The course prepares you for the volunteering role and will cover: non-judgemental listening skills, values & attitudes, confidentiality & boundaries, depression, domestic violence and child protection.
Do you need any qualifications to be a volunteer?
The only real ‘qualification’ you need to become a Home-Start volunteer is experience of bringing up children. You will be friendly and understanding and have a practical approach to problems. You don’t judge people, you accept them for what they are and then strive to support them as they try to give their children the best possible start in life.

£750 raised for CharityIn 2013, during our Aladdin panto, we raised money for local charity - me & Dee. Proceeds from our show raffle and other collections were donated to this very worthy cause.
me & Dee was founded in 2005 as a charity to provide ‘treats’ for people with life-threatening/life-shortening illnesses.
We handed over a cheque to Maria Hanson of the charity for £750 when Snow White and cast visted the Burton Christmas lights switch-on back in November.
A lasting tribute to Betty Vallans
Members of Burton and District Arts CouncilAffiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association
As you may have read in last year’s programme - our dear friend and valued member Betty Vallans passed away in 2012. As Betty and her husband were both long-time supporters of BASE, the committee decided that a suitable memorial for Betty and Barry should be donated to the place that they both loved and lived - Tutbury Castle.
On a beautiful September morning, members of BASE and Betty’s family held a small ceremony at the Castle to formally unveil the bench.
Pictured on the bench with Betty’s family are Ken Dawson (Vice Chairman of BASE), Joan Broadhurst and Ray Walton.
