Sonoma Coun y Junior College District Student Government Assembly RESOLUTION By the 158th SRJC Student Government Administration; and the Honorable Joshua Pinaula, !50th recorded Student Body President; Relative to commending ugene anebart " I am not much impressed by surveys of what other community colleges are doing, or not doing. If we are to be the best-- and I believe that we are -- then there are a whole host of things that we should be doing that other community colleges are not. One of those things is maintaining our support for a strong student government and student activities program. " -Eugene S. Canevari WHEREAS, Eugene Canevari, husband to Carmelita, father to Kimberly and Piper, faithfully served the Sonoma County Junior College District for 22 years - has distinguished himself among his peers as a capable and effective leader by virtue of his performance as the Dean of Student Activities, Advisor to the Santa Rosa Junior College Student Government (1966 - 1985), as a counselor (1985 - 1988), and served Sonoma County as a whole through a variety of businesses; including Calico Hardwoods, Eucan Productions, and the Stanley-Champion Company; and WHEREAS, prior to assuming the role of advisor to the Student Government at Santa Rosa Junior College, Eugene Canevari worked diligently to ensure student success for seven years as a fifth grade teacher at Rincon Valley Elementary School and after his retirement, Eugene has maintained his relationship with students and alumni; and WHEREAS, the SRJC Student Government is the main legislative and decision-making body for the students of the Santa Rosa Junior College; student concerns and issues are brought forward to the Student Government for deliberation and voting when appropriate and campus-wide issues pertaining to college-wide comn1ittees are also brought to the Student Government for discussion and position statements, and having a supportive and effective advisor is critical in the success ofstudents; and WHEREAS, as the Advisor of the Student Government at Santa Rosa Junior College, Eugene Canevari provided effective advising and support; and through his hard work, quick-wit, caring and generous nature, outspoken advocacy and unwavering commitment to students, he has compiled an extensive record of academic and civic achievements, and is a founding participate of several student services including: the SRJC Daycare Center, the Women's Center Crisis Line (528-CARE), BEAR FACTS, and Ex-offenders program; a record that has earned him the admiration and respect of those persons who have had the privilege of associating with him- he has continued to encourage and engage community members to strive to make SRJC a better place; and WHEREAS, Eugene Canevari's tenure as advisor has been characterized by: his enthusiasm for the organization's overall mission, willingness to accept multiple and simultaneous tasks, wide knowledge and experience in multiple areas of the organization, his personal commitment and dedication to students was evident through his leadership and superior ability to support the work of many diverse student groups including: the Picayune Times Star Bulletin, the SRJC Gas Company, the Student Handbook, the Calendar of Events, the Daily Universe, the Underground SRJC Alumni Friends and Enemies, the Football Ticket Crew, the Baseball Ticket Crew, and THE DESIGN GROUP; and WHEREAS, Eugene Canevari's compassionate nature and affinity for technology fueled his work to take tnajor strides in preserving invaluable SRJC Student Government history and creating student spaces including: archiving student events, student life, SRJC culture, remodeling Pioneer Hall, remodeling Doyle Student Center with a lounge and game room, and dedicating the Pioneer Fountain to students past, present, and future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED BY THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSEMBLY, that we take great pleasure in commending Eugene Canevari on his outstanding display of service to students, congratulate him on the guidance and leadership that he provided the Student Government at Santa Rosa Junior College during his term as advisor, and convey to him best wishes and continued appreciation for his lasting contributions by recognizing him with the title of "Father of Pioneer Hall and Doyle Student Center"; and RESOLVE, that Pioneer Hall be dedicated as a monument and a commemorative plaque be installed in Eugene Canevari's honor; and to respect Eugene Canevari's efforts in dedicating Pioneer Fountain to students past, present and future by taking measures to ensure the Pioneer Fountain's repair.
