YOU WERE

THE JUDGE!

Vol. 43 March, 2018

THE WINNERS in the GCA focus

Online Photo Contest

focusing on The Freeman

From the Managing Editor…

focus is proud to publish the winning images from our online photo contest, focusing on The Freeman. Each image captures beautifully the colors, lines, shapes, and forms of the Freeman plants and underscores why GCA has selected these plants as Freeman Medal honorees. Thanks to each of you who used your cameras to capture the unique qualities of these splendid plants.

Thank you all 209 voters! The winners you selected stand in testament to the creative, technical and artistic merits of the images. During Spring Meeting Week- March 4-9, the winning images also will be displayed in the new Gallery Meeting Room at GCA Headquarters, and we hope many of you have a chance to stop in.

As with all things GCA, we never let the grass grow too high under our feet (unless it is a meadow)! Get ready to enter our next focus online photography contest:

Wings at Work: The Birds, the Bees... and the Butterflies, too! * The schedule is found on the website. This new contest will highlight photos that illustrate native plants and pollinators whose protection is a stated goal in “ SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, SEED DIVERSITY , AND FOOD SECURITY” and “TRANSPORTATION,”** two of the nine position papers addressing national public policy issues written by the Conservation and National Affairs and Legislation Committees,

Get your cameras out, focus, shoot! Ellen

SUBMISSIONS

focus is a quarterly online publication by the Photography Committee of The Garden Club of America (GCA). It is posted on the GCA website on the first day of March, June, September and December of each year and showcases photographs that have won a First Place and/or a GCA Special Award(s)) in the Photography Division at a GCA or sanctioned non-GCA flower show. It also contains photography articles/information targeted to GCA photographers of all ability and interest levels.

To submit for publication consideration, use the “focus Submission Form for Articles and/or Image Content” accessible via this link: https://form.jotform.us/71733644684161, or, via the Photography Committee page on the GCA website in the section titled “focus, Online Magazine.” Follow instructions.

To support the best intentions of photographers, only appropriate images of a child(ren) should be submitted to, passed, and exhibited in, Photography Divisions of any GCA flower show and/or published in focus. In the event GCA determines that any image fails to meet this “appropriate” standard, the image no longer will be shown or displayed. Any such determination would occur only after consultation between the Photography Committee Chairman, GCA President, and possibly the GCA Executive Board.

Submission grants focus and GCA the right to use articles and/or image content, in any way, in connection with GCA’S mission or charitable purposes, including the right to publish it on the GCA website in both the Public Pages and the MembersArea.

Any focus content is neither the opinion nor a representation(s) of focus or GCA; neither focus nor GCA endorse any product or service.

focus MISSION STATEMENT (in part)

The object of focus is to enhance the knowledge and enjoyment of the art of photography, at all levels of involvement, and to appreciate its unique blend of technical skill, knowledge of composition and creativity.
