If I’m going to begin, with the most pressing thought in my brain

right now, I have to say one of the major television networks should be con-

tacting our industry, any time now, asking about doing a reality series called

“Survivor Ain’t Got Nothing On Us!” Eight years of severely depressed

markets and now the coldest calving season since the middle of the last ice

age. I truly do believe those of us who did survive may have finally hit the jackpot. And I have a good feel-

ing we’re going to be sitting in the driver’s seat for several years into the future.

Before we acquired our purebred red angus herd we had been using red angus sires exclusively on our

450 head mixed commercial herd because we loved how they crossed with any other breed, the maternal traits

were so good, and the calving ease and low maintenance calves significantly lowered the labor requirements at

calving so calving that many females was manageable and not too hard on the marriage. As we sold off our

commercial cows, as cow/calf pairs, our females did command quite a premium so several buyers would only

buy a small package of our cows and offset the cost by buying some other cheaper cattle. Pretty well every

one of those folks have since contacted us saying they wished they had spent the extra money and bought

more cows from us. And the interest in our culled replacement heifers this spring has been extremely gratify-

ing.

The Royal Valley herd of registered females, we purchased in 2007, which is still the main bloodline in

the Anchor 1 program, are extremely sound, quiet, maternal females with unbelievable longevity- not to men-

tion one of the most decorated red angus herds in Alberta. I would bet you would not find another herd, of

any breed, with 55 cows calving this season at ten years old and older (22- 13 years plus and one at 18). And

most of those cows look like they could be six. And those same genetics remain strong in our entire female

herd.

We understand many farmers like to use red angus sires on their heifers or second calvers, for the calv-

ing ease and low maintenance, but know from experience using the red angus power bulls on your cows will

leave you a set of both feeder steers and replacement heifers that you, and your potential buyers, will love.

And carcass and consumer statistics have shown that angus beef really is the best.

We believe this is the best set of bulls we have ever had to offer, both calving ease and power, stand

excited about the future of our program as we strive to offer more power bulls, while maintaining our strong

Video Auction Sale

In an effort to Make things as easy as

possible for us hosting the Sale and to facilitate

the viewing of the bulls with out a full sale

facility we have decided to Run the Video Sale

again this Year. For the Sale the Video clip will

play on the big screen as the bulls are sold.

This sale format was very successfully last

year and at other operations and we feel that is

the best way to keep stress low on the cattle.

Basically the only difference from a traditional

bull sale is that the cattle will not physically

walk through the sale ring. The bulls will be

displayed at the Bull farm just ½ a mile away.

This will allow you to view the bulls prior to

the sale and then come up to the hall for lunch

and the sale. If you have any questions about

dance with CAA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring

physical injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will

be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase

of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service

your cows.

Bull Development & Delivery:Option A:Bulls can be picked up at Anchor 1 on sale day and a $50 discount

will be deducted from purchase price.

Option B:At the buyers option and risk, the bulls can stay at Anchor 1 and

will be delivered with in 250 KM of Mayerthorpe. We will do our

utmost to deliver them right to your yard. This will be done at the

convience of Anchor 1.

Option C:Anchor 1 will keep the bulls free of charge until May 1st. At this

time the buyer must pick up Bull From the Farm.

Double bred to calving ease breed legend Ole’s Oscar we thought we were keeping a calv-

ing ease bull when we kept this guy but what we got was a power bull with extreme muscle

and style. Hitch does throw a little birth into his calves but we have never assisted any

calves with birth or sucking. His calves remind me of the exotic bred calves we used to

have on our old commercial cows- just a little more stylish and a whole lot smarter.

This guy is out of a 13 year old cow that is extremely sound and phenotyp-

ically correct. He is a very showy, cherry red Bull with a great foot under

Best word to describe Beef- consistency. Extremely easy moving bull that

could probably service 80 cows if he had to- this guy simply gets the job done.

Uniform birth weights with great performance, this fellows calves are peas in a

When we chose to keep 29U, for our own in herd use, we thought we were keeping an extremely

stylish power bull with a great dam. We were only partly right. He was only exposed to 5 cows

in 09 but they are 5 of our best calves (two bulls in the sale and 3 heifers in the replacement pen.

What we didn’t expect was his absolutely “no miss” calving ease on heifers. On probably 50

plus heifers (2010 and 11) he has averaged about 75 pounds and those calves know how to grow.

Look for a lot more of his progeny in future sales.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been

made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made.

BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for

in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be

the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer's decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER'S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchas-

er's risk for a reasonable time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cau-

tioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and fur-

nished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by Sales Management or Seller.

Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making

GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the Canadian Angus Association. At no time shall

the seller's liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after

the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.
