Analysis Of Thriller Poster

‘A house is not a home’

Page 2: Analysis of thriller poster

The overall tone of the poster fits nicely along the connotations and conventions of a thriller. One being having a main focus of the image within the poster, the eyes above

the house are large and pronounced looking directly at the audience. This quickly draws the

audience as it’s the first thing they see. This engagement immediately give the audience a feel they are involved. The eyes towering over the house shows dominance and power and hints to the audience the possible narrative within the

film and foreshadows what is yet to come such as an evil spirit

watching or haunting the house, this dark and devilish tone is

reinforced by the mise en scene of the creature above the house such

as the pupil shape on a almost monster like unidentifiable face.

This works with edit use of mist to mask the identify of the creature and unsettle the audience to become feared of the unknown as they are unable to pin point what exactly they are seeing. This use of manipulation by the editors lead them to receiving the targeted response. Therefore leading to a deeper meaning as the audience has to engage within the poster, incising them to the film and finding out what's it all about.

The overall colour use within the poster suggests danger and

warning. This can be identified by the use of deep reads within the

main focus of the image, suggesting it is a threat and a real hazard within the film. The greens of the plantation outside of the house shows reality with a more naturalistic setting, giving

the impression that all is well outside of the house. As we get

closer to the house we recognise the colour begin to darken with the font door almost matching the creature above it, this can

have connotations of the creature above the house having control over the house or is part of it.

This can be seen through the similarities of colouring throughout the house of deep browns and reds, these colouring leading to a mysterious persona and troublesome situations to occur. This can appear interesting to the audience as they want to find out what would happen if someone or a family moved in to the haunted house and how will they overcome their problem. This narrative may prove attractive to many thriller lovers and proceed the watch the film on or after its release.

A clear display of the title and characters starring in

the film are made apparent almost straight away to the audience. Consisting of a large font with is clearly readable to the audience

allowing them to recognise the film title easily and make sudden judgments, helping

to understand the film more. Star names in white are

placed directly above the main image with the contrast

of the white font so it is easily read.

if the audience are unable to read what is on the poster then they are more likely to not see the thriller as the main purpose of the poster is to give detail and information about the film, if this is not present it appears unattractive and unprofessional to the audience, being not well put together. Credits are displayed directly under the title, the slogan under the title as it relates the narrative and title of the film.
