ANALYSIS OF PROFESSIONA

L MAGZINE COVERS

Masthead; This is the title of the magazine.

Barcode, price and issue number.

This is what you call Puff, it gives you a bit more extra information.

The is a main cover line which relates to the cover picture.

I chose this background to compliment to colour of the magazine.

NME• Masthead- Even though the title is slightly hidden

behind the cover picture it is still bold and eye catching. The bold colours grab the readers attention this is seen in plenty of magazines.

• Cover lines- are important to have on the front cover. They give the audience an understanding of what the magazine will include. On the front cover of NME the coverlines have subheadings which are coloured red, this is striking for the reader who picks up the magazine leaving the reader keen to buy the mgazine.

• Cover star – This cover star in this issue of NME is of Alex Turner and Miles Kane promoting their band (the arctic monkeys)

• Puff- the puff is used to direct the audience to a particular part in the magazine.

Barcode and price of magazine.

This comment is an incentive to get people to buy the magazine (also a puff)

The colours contrast brilliantly with the background of the magazine.

Q

• Masthead- The masthead in Q magazine is set to the left top corner, I feel this is a good place for the Masthead to be this is because it is eye catching the colours used (white and red) also stand out this all helps with gripping the readers attention and this is definitely something which will be considered when creating my magazine.

• Cover lines- There are not a lot of cover lines on the cover page of this magazine, however it does not effect the layout because the page as a whole is not busy therefore it does not need lots of information.

• Puff- The puff is to grab and draw the reader in, It normally includes the offers which the magazine has.

• Cover star- The cover star on this cover page is Florence and the Machine, this is a fabulous close up, it works well the definition of the face is brilliant. There is no picsillated parts to the image.

Kerrang• Masthead- The masthead sits just behind the cover

picture, which is how most magazines produce their layout. The title is still bold with the White block letters. It also has an edgy rock look about it.

• Cover star- Like ‘Q’ magazine the cover picture works really well. The front cover features Haley Williams posing with a picture of herself in her hand. The facial expression is in keeping with the theme of the magazine because if you see the smaller pictures on the front cover, the people photographed in them are pulling immature faces. This suggest that they are independent and their own person just like the genre of indie music.

• Something which has not been shown in the past two magazines is skylines, the role for a skyline is show the reader what is involved in the magazine this is similar to a puff however the difference is it sits at the top of the cover page.
