Thiscoursewillexamineanumberoftheoriesofpracticethathaveproven
usefulbothineducationandinavarietyofotherfields.Itshouldbepossibletodevelopthesefurtherforthestudyofteachingandlearningaspractice.These
aretheoriesofmeaningfulhumanactionandactivity,includingdiscourse,analyzedintermsofuniqueandrecurringsocialpracticesorwaysofdoing,
fromsociology,anthropology,culturalpsychology,sociallinguistics,semiotics
andotherfields.Coursereadingsaredrawnbothfromgeneraltheoriesofpracticesuchastheseandfromspecificstudiesofeducationalpractice,including
workbyBall&Lampert,Wortham,Lemke,Palincsar,andothers.
