Analysis of Film Magazine Covers
Masthead = uses particular font to make the name of
magazine more recognisable.
Image of actor who will appear in main article = the image is placed in front of masthead to
show importance and star power.
Tagline of the magazine which is usually altered according to the issue e.g. action packed. Also it
will be placed above the masthead.
Issue number and date is usually the smallest sized text and can be
found either underneath the
masthead or between it.
Sell line will be used to show who the main article is about e.g.
Renner.
This will typically be used to show something
special about the magazine that attracts
reader.
Sell line to show what other featured articles
will be about = this will usually be other films
that goes along with the topic of the issue such as
‘action packed’.
The actor and main article is promoting a film
‘Bourne Legacy’ so the largest text of the
magazine apart from the masthead will be the film that the main article is on.
Once again this is showing the reader what other articles they can look
forward to in the magazine.
Sell line to promote the film and ‘world exclusive’ shows this will be new information
to attract reader.

usually vary according to each issue.

colour has been made to fit in with film and
background.
These show the featured articles that can be found in the magazine = entice
reader.

issue.

placed underneath masthead.
This acts like the ‘exclusive’ of the
magazine to entice reader.
The barcode will be on the bottom right corner
of magazine.
This is also the featured articles in the magazine
or something can be found inside even if isn’t a main article.
The main image is of the featured actor who is promoting the film.
Name of the promoted film will be the largest
which also has a tagline that says a little about it.
These are other featured articles or something special in the magazine.

promote the film.

This is with the promotion of film to show there are other
magazines of same film with different actors.

is very large and is giving direct address = the masthead is in front of image which shows
less star power.
