Analysis of Audience Research

BY GEORGINA PROBERT

Page 2: Analysis of audience research

Q1) How old are you?

All of my respondents are aged 15-18 which reflects how teenagers are most likely to be interacting on social media rather than adults. This could also suggest that teenagers have more spare time to complete surveys whereas adults are more likely to be busy.

Q2) What is your gender?

The majority of respondents to my survey are female which could make the responses bias. It could also suggest that females are more likely to respond to surveys than males. An average of 77% of respondents were females and 23% males. The difference is significantly different.

Q3) What genre of music interests you most?

11 out of 13 people responded to this question. Due to 2 people skipping this question, it could suggest that people are unsure on what type of music interests them most or they do not want to share their answer. However, out of the 11 respondents the most popular genre of music seemed to be RnB or rock music. This suggests that people might me more likely to read a magazine that in rock based or RnB based.

Q4) On a monthly basis, how often do you read magazines?

The highest percentage of respondents said that they didn’t read magazines at all on a monthly basis. This was nearly half of respondents. However, 38.46% of people said that they read magazines 1-2 times on a monthly basis which could suggest that reading magazines isn’t common in todays era because of introduction to technology. Nobody said that they read magazines 5+ times on a monthly basis which also suggests that reading magazines isn’t a common thing to do.

Q5) Do you subscribe to/buy any music magazines?

The majority of respondents said that they didn’t subscribe to or buy any music magazines. This could suggest that music magazines aren’t popular in modern day or people buy different types of magazines that aren’t music related. 38.46% of people said they do buy music magazines which means that people do still buy them, but not as many as the people that don’t.

Q6) Rank the following in order of importance when choosing a magazine.

Most people ranked feature articles and interviews as the most important part of a magazine. This suggests that people like finding out what peoples opinions are or articles that feature other things. The least ranked was readers letters. This could suggest that people don’t like reading things that aren’t from the magazine but from the public. Photospreads, reviews, freebies and posters are all of an equal importance according to respondents.

Q7) Rate how good the following magazines are.

Most people rated Q magazine as the best magazine, following close behind NME and Mojo. These three magazines have a genre of rock. This could suggest that people prefer rock magazines to other genres. Kerrang!, Mixmag and Top of the Pops are also of an equal rating. These magazines are also of a similar genre which implies that people prefer rock music. However, Top of the Pops is slightly lower rated than the other magazines. This could be because it is a magazine aimed at young teenagers and most of my respondents were ages 15-18.

Q8) How much would you be willing to pay for a music magazine?

Results for how much people are willing to pay for a music magazines was a close result. An average of 54% of people said they would pay 1-3 pounds and 46% of people said they would pay 4-7 pounds. Overall, people would rather pay less money for a music magazine which suggests that people would rather spend their money on other things or perhaps want think there are more important things to purchase. Nobody was willing to pay over 8 pounds which suggests that none of my respondents are passionate enough about music magazines to pay that much money.

Q9) Would you prefer music magazines to be published weekly or monthly?

The vast majority of respondents said they would prefer music magazines to be published monthly, not weekly. This could be because people may not have time to read a new magazine every week so they would prefer to just read one per month. Furthermore, there might not be enough new information for a new music magazine per week so it is easier to publish a new one every month.

Q10) If you do buy magazines, do you buy them in store or online?

Most of respondents said that they buy magazines in store rather than online. In todays society this is quite a surprising result due to the introduction to technology. The result suggests that people probably pick up their monthly magazine when they are in a supermarket rather than going out of their way to search and order their magazine online. Buying magazines in store is an easier ad quicker way to get them which is probably why this was the most popular option.
