analysing potential film poster images

Images one and two have been taken from a good angle as it has the main character in the front thus highlighting this to the audience. The camera is slightly titled up towards the actors and therefore allows more of the scenery to be captured in the images. These images are also well lit but are not too bright. Whereas, images three and four are not well placed in the frame are taken too far away from the actors. Although I could crop it so they become closer, I personally think these images wont be successful. However, I will try the images in a design for my film poster. When asking the target audience for feedback on these images, it was made very clear that image one was most favoured with image three being the least. Some comments including ‘I like the angle image one is taken from’ and ‘In image four, I like how the character is looking away,’ have been said. This positive feedback highlights to me that these images could potentially work within my film poster. However comments including ‘Three and four aren’t clear to who is the main character, especially on four as one person is looking away’ and ‘The images maybe slightly too busy and don’t show who is the main character’ is another consideration I will take into account when choosing aspects for my final design.

After receiving spoken feedback on each of these images I have been able to decide which is more appropriate to use as my final design.

These images gained very positive feedback from my target audience. They liked how one actor was larger than the others as it highlighted to them that she is the main character in the film. There was a nearly even split to if they preferred the background characters to be closer or further away from the main character. One said ‘It is not necessary to clearly see the other characters’ whilst another said ‘I like how you can see the main character and other characters who are in the film.’ From this feedback, I will now have to choose which I prefer and so which I will use when creating my film poster.

As these images were the best liked and highly rated, I am most likely going to use this style of image for my film poster. This is because it gained positive feedback and highlights to the audience who the main character is within the film. I think the composition of these images is successful and personally prefer them to the other images that I have considered using for my film poster.
