Earthen ponds — sub-areas to left cordoned off by screens are stocked with perch 29/11/19

Are ponds in good structural condition? Visually the fibreglass tanks looked in good condition; Condition of earthen pond also appeared good...
Ponds and tunnel layout similar to that seen in 2018 inspection. 7 of the 7001 tanks in Tunnel 2 were stocked with recently produced perch larvae. / Larger tanks in Tunnel 1 were likely to be put to use in a few weeks' time.
(3) WATER SUPPLY ARRANGEMENTS:
ABSTRACTION SOURCE (S) 1. Borehole on the site at rear of Tunnel 1
2. Stream at Cloonloogh flowing on east boundary of site which is a tributary of Boyle River.
WATER ABSTRACTION ARRANGEMENTS
Gravity Flow: Abstraction from stream at Cloonagh at point upstream of site (piped by gravity) used outdoor ponds. Abstraction site inspected with farm manger on 28/11/19.
Pumped supply from Borehole — in use for RAS system top up (tunnels supply).
IS WATER SUPPLY TO FARM FOR:
(1) Single Pond Use: external ponds
(2) Multiple Pond Use: internal tanks on RAS system
If `YES' to Multiple Pond uses How many re-uses?
(3) Does complete recirculation of water supply occur? RAS systems use bio filter, drum screen
and UV disinfection
(4) If `YES' to 3
(i) How many recirculations occur? < 5% top up
(ii) Frequency of recirculation? Continuous RAS systems employed in hatchery tunnels

(4) ENHANCEMENT TREATMENTS TO WATER SUPPLY / PONDS
ARE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING TREATMENTS IN OPERATION (TICK APPROPRIATE)
1. Dissolve Oxygen Injection into Water Supply Line. ✓
2. Aeration Treatment of Ponds. ✓ paddle aerators and lift pumps
3. Other (Describe) ✓
(5) FLOW MEASUREMENT
DESCRIBE ANY FLOW MEASURING DEVICES IF IN OPERATION AT THE FARM AS FOLLOWS:
1. On river upstream of intake no
2. At intake from Water Supply Source. no
3. On Effluent Discharge Line. no
4. Other (Describe)
I recommend that a sharp edged rectangular notch or similar floe measuring structure be installed near outflow to surface waters in order to allow weekly flow measurements be taken
(6) FISH PASSAGE Is there a Fish Pass in Operation:
Are Fish Passage Arrangements Satisfactory?
(7) SCREENING ARRANGEMENTS
Are Screening Arrangements Adequate?
(1) On Inlet to Ponds yes (tanks)
(2) On Outlet from Ponds
5
no — not required; low height abstraction weir
n/a
yes (tanks) No — but there are screens across with of earthen ponds designed to confine perch within a smaller sub-areas of each of the three ponds.
(3) At Intakes from Water Supply Source no
(4) At Discharge Points to Water Course: Inflow and outflow from the final settlement pond is designed to be through plastic pipes overlain by gravel.
IF `NO' PLEASE COMMENT:
(8) MORTALITIES
Arrangement for disposal of Mortalities Describe: Frozen and transported to authorised disposal contractor
Are disposal arrangements satisfactory: Disposal contractor licensed to deal with mort waste . However records kept on fish farm of the dates and amounts of mort waste disposed of need to be comprehensive and appeared not to be — a record a 2019 consignment delivered by owner to Midland Animal Collection, Scramogue, Strokestown, Co Roscommon was not available during the inspection.
(9) CHEMICAL APPLICATION METHODS
YES
BATH ✓
FLOW THROUGH OTHER (Describe)
NO
Is the application method satisfactory? Not assessed
(10) CHEMICAL USAGE
Volume of chemical used on farm: - amounts are small; Record keeping
How are chemicals stored? In dedicated storage cabinet which is lockable. Is storage satisfactory? Yes
Specify method of storage (I.e. drum/tank/barrels/other specify) in proprietary containers/bottles
Are chemical storage containers Properly labelled indicating the
0
Hazardous chemical contained within? Yes
(12) TREATMENT OF FISH FARM EFFLUENT
(i) Is treatment provided Yes
(ii) If `YES' describe treatment method: Effluent from stock ponds enters a final pond for settlement before discharge to sump and to river;

(13) OTHER
(i)
If `YES' to (i) is treatment satisfactory Adequacy of treatment will be a matter for sanitary authority.
Are disinfection foot-baths present at the farm? Yes
Are anti-predator nets in place over appropriate ponds if necessary? Yes

(14) POND/SUMP CLEANING (i) Describe pond/sump cleaning arrangements; excavation of settled material
in earthen ponds has been necessary in recent years. Inside tankage (fibreglass) tanks cleaned by power washing and disinfection.
(ii) Are pond/sump cleaning arrangements satisfactory: not assessed
OTHER COMMENTS:
In 2019 perch juveniles (> 4g weight) produced went to supply the Bord na Mona BIM `PEATAQUA' project at Mount Lucas, Co. Offaly. Batches went in June, August and October.
Bloodstock tagging system is now in place for data collection on each fish performance at spawning
Site area to west of tunnels has been tidied since last inspection and disused gear disposed of. A certain amount of disused/damaged parts were still in evidence.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT:
Operation is generally compliant with its aquaculture licence.
I recommend that the farm carry out further improvements in maintenance of outside storage areas ( licence condition 3.8 refers) and in the keeping of full mort disposal records (licence condition 3.11 refers to operations record keeping).
