Keep In Mind…
Let the young person lead
Echo the language used by the youth
Be aware of which names and identities are known to family
& friends
Know the roadblocks and hurdles in your field before they
walk in the door

Self assessment Take a few moments to assess yourself and your
work environment. I would be comfortable knowing that my child’s 3rd grade teacher is gay
If I found out that my child was LGBTQ, I would have difficulty telling other
people
I would feel comfortable dating a bisexual person
I should be informed if a coworker is transgender
It would not bother me at all if someone thought I was gay
I would feel uncomfortable if my young son wanted to wear dresses
