Snow Leopard Naming RightsThe snow leopard (also known as a rock leopard) is the only exclusively alpine cat in the world. This rare and shy nocturnal animal is seldom seen, and was photographed in the wild for the first time in 1971.

Snow leopards are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species and their natural habitats are in jeopardy as well. There are an estimated 4,500 – 7,000 snow leopards in the wild, and about 450 in zoos around the world. Because they are so elusive and blend so well into their environment, it is difficult to determine their exact number.

Our recently arrived female snow leopard came to us from the Snow Leopard Species Survival Plan, as a companion to our resident male snow leopard, Rigal. They are now sharing the exhibit at the north end of the Lion House and appear to be getting along quite well!  

Name our female snow leopard in honor of a loved one, and know that you are contributing to the conservation and future success of this remarkable creature. This package includes a private behind-the-scenes tour!
