The Kamnik estate is located

in the River Vardar valley,

Skopje Wine Region, the eastern

entrance to the city of Skopje.

The current 16 hectares of

vineyards, and the winery

itself, stretch across hills with a

minimum height of 300 m above

sea level, with a southern slope

exposition. The surrounding

mountains enable excellent

microclimatic preconditions

for the vines. The mountain air

currents circulating in this area

reduce the summer evening

temperatures and keep the soil

warm in winter. The vines are

planted at a density of 5.500

plants per hectare, cultivated

with single Guyot pruning

system.

Here we cultivate new clonal

developments of the grape

varieties later used for creating

Kamnik world-class fine wines.

FOUNDATIONS

Started as a very personal fascination with the wine-

making art that the founder has always had, everything

else came as a completely natural nowadays expression

of the authentic Macedonian wine-making traditions.

From collecting wines from all over the globe, through

the first vines planted and their transformation into

vineyards, through the foundations of the modern

castle-like boutique winery, and the first barrels in it, to

the first wines bottled, and then many more travelling

around the world, some winning great awards, a team

of excellent people turned this vision into a wine-world

building quest called Kamnik Wines, our creations

combining past and future, now; keeping our story alive.

Kamnik Vineyard Varieties

RED: Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Syrah, Cabernet

Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Merlot, Arinarnoa, Vranec.

WHITE: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer,

Moscato Giallo, Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, Greco di Tufo, Viognier.

Kamnik Terroir

The cinnamonic soil is characterized by a good mechanical (clay and

stony) composition, which enables ideal preconditions for a balanced

growth and development of the vines. The rich mineral composition is

reflected in the authentic taste of the wines.

HOW WE GROOM OUR GRAPES

The grapes, created with special care and clonal selection, express

their fullest potential with remarkable aromas, elegance and

structure. All the main cultivation operations – pruning, tying,

defoliation and cluster thinning– are done by hand. The harvest is

also carried out entirely by hand, at different times for each section

and variety, in order to ensure that the grapes reach the cellar at

the optimal degree of maturation. This trend ensures the perfect

ripening of the grapes, avoiding arrest of maturation due to water

stress in plants.

CREATION

We pay close attention and great care to

determine the best harvest time in terms of

the phenolic, aromatic and the enological

maturity of the grapes. These are important

aspects that result in optimal content of

sugars and aromatic compounds in the

grapes, and also into a qualitative and

quantitative evolution of the polyphenols in

the grape skin.

The ampelo-technical measures we apply

enable obtaining phenolically ripe wines

with intense ruby red color, high level of

extracts and extended ageing potential.

When it comes to the red varieties, we apply

double crop reduction which ensures partial

dehydration of the grapes on the vine.

We take only the best grapes, by hand, and we

celebrate that as a moment when the creation

of our wines starts again.


THE CELLARWINE ARCHITECTURE

VINIFICATION

The vinification starts immediately after the harvest

and it begins with the white varieties. The processes

of vinification take place in special inox tanks and

wooden vats. In order to achieve proper kinetics of the

fermentation, each tank and vat is separately controlled

and monitored for temperature, with data being

graphically displayed several times a day. When it comes

to the red grape varieties, the pneumatic punch down

system of the wooden vats enables exceptional color

extraction with extremely fine tannins, and preservation

of all the aromatic compounds. The premium red wines

are always aged in new French and American oak barrels,

which enhances their premium quality characteristics.
