The program started with march-past to invite the chief guest Mr. D.V.P. Dhrama Singh secretary, MISS. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. M. Kannan ,Principal,MISS. The chief guest hoisted the flag. Dr. (Capt.) D.V.P Raja, Founder & Chairman) who has dedicated his life to the nation by serving Indian Army, delivered the Presidential address, insisted the roles and responsibilities of younger generation towards the nation. His speech was really inspiring. Eventually students took their opportunity to exhibit their talents in the cultural programme and the celebrations ended with national anthem. Observance of National Voters Day 24.1.2014 Madurai Institute of Social Science has observed the National voters day on 24.1.2014 in the common assembly. Dr.M.Kannan, the Principal , MISS, addressed the gathering and he emphasized on the importance of National Voters day and the role of youth in exercising their right to vote in the democracy. Followed by the students have undertaken an oath on casting the vote for dignity of free, fair and peaceful election fearlessly and without being influenced by religion, race, caste, community, language .

2013-2014

Independence Day -15/08/2013

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated 67th Independence Day to remember the

martyrs and their remarkable contributions to our nation. The program started with march-past

to invite the chief guest Mr. D.V.P. Dhrama Singh secretary, MISS. The welcome address was

delivered by Dr. M. Kannan ,Principal,MISS. The chief guest hoisted the flag. Dr. (Capt.) D.V.P

Raja, Founder & Chairman) who has dedicated his life to the nation by serving Indian Army,

delivered the Presidential address, insisted the roles and responsibilities of younger generation

towards the nation. His speech was really inspiring. Eventually students took their opportunity to

exhibit their talents in the cultural programme and the celebrations ended with national anthem.

Observance of National Voters Day – 24.1.2014

Madurai Institute of Social Science has observed the National voters day on

24.1.2014 in the common assembly. Dr.M.Kannan, the Principal , MISS, addressed the gathering

and he emphasized on the importance of National Voters day and the role of youth in exercising

their right to vote in the democracy. Followed by the students have undertaken an oath on casting

the vote for dignity of free, fair and peaceful election fearlessly and without being influenced by

religion, race, caste, community, language .

Republic Day Celebration- 26/01/2014

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated the 68th Republic Day function. Dr.

D.V.P .Raja, Founder & Chairman, MISS hoisted the national flag. Then the students performed

parade. The Chairman Founder (captain) D.V.P.Raja delivered the presidential address. He spoke

about the contributions of students in the development of nation. He also shared his experiences

in Indian army. He quoted that healthy youth force is a priceless asset for the nation. Every

student must have a vision that focuses the nation’s growth. Keeping the environment clean is

the first step towards the nation’s prosperity. He pointed that food wastage is also a corruption

against farmers, which derecognises their timeless efforts and that directly affects nation’s

growth. He suggested that every student should learn agricultural activities as part of their

curriculum, which is followed in developed countries.

Technological development alone cannot make the nation prosper, women empowerment, child

labour eradication, providing compulsory education to every child is immediate requirement of

the nation. Every student should help at least one school going children regarding their studies

and be a guide for the children’s career, he added. Students performed cultural activities and the

function was ended with national anthem.

Guest lecture on Right to information act-5.2.2014

A guest lecture on Right to information act was organised on 5th February 2014 in the

MSW I Class room. Mr.M.R.Murugesan, Advocate was the resource person. Mr.D.V.Dharma

Singh, Secretary, MISS presided over the function. Mr.M.R.Murugesan stated that the Right to

Information Act is to empower the citizens, promote transparency and accountability in the

working of the Government and he said that citizen must be equipped to keep necessary

vigilance on the system. He motivated the students to stand for their rights. 35 students

participated in the programme.

2014-2015

Independence Day - 15/08/2014

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated the 68th Independence Day as a mark to

remember the martyrs and their sacrifices and the hardest days that they had been walking

through. The programme was started with March-past by our beloved students for inviting the

Chief Guest Dr. M. Srinivasan, Director, AR Hospital, Madurai who hoisted the flag. Dr. Capt

D.V.P Raja Chairman of MISS addressed the gathering. He took pride to address the students on

the importance of water management. As the entire city is experiencing water scarcity problem,

he emphasised the importance of saving water. “A drop of water saved today is the valuable

asset that is preserved for tomorrow”, he quoted. He said that our state and the neighbour states

will prosper only if the water sharing issues are resolved. Finally the programme ended with

national anthem.

Guest Lecture on Consumer Rights - 11.09.2015

The Department of Commerce has organized a guest lecture on consumer rights on 5th

February 2014 in the HRD hall, Mr. Tamilarasan, advocate was the resource person.

Mr.D.V.Dharma Singh, Secretary, MISS presided over the function. Mr Tamilarasan started the

guest lecture with a special message of President John F Kennedy. It is our right to know about

the quality of the product. He discussed about the basic rights of the customer. He shared the

policies about the customer rights. He said that it is a duty of the every citizen to fight for their

rights. He motivated the students to bring out with their queries and clarified the doubts of the

every student.

Observation of International Youth Day - 12/01/2015

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated International Youth Day on Jan 12th 2015 to

commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Arise, Awake, and Stop not until the

goal is achieved” was the message given by Swami Vivekananda who personifies the eternal

energy of the youth and their quest for truth. The celebration started with a special assembly

comprising of thoughts, speeches, slogans and life history of Swami Vivekananda. Students

performed group activity to present the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Students took pledge

to follow the principles laid down by Swami Vivekananda.

Republic day Celebration - 26/01/2015

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated Republic Day on 26.1.2015 in the

college premises. Dr. Desingu. S. Raja M.D, Rajapalayam, was the chief guest of the day. The

Chief Guest hoisted the national flag and delivered chief guest address. The chief guest delivered

his message insisting the eradication of child labour, a real curse of the society. He also quoted

women must be empowered, who takes care the family and the society. Finally our students

performed cultural activities and the programme ended with national anthem.

2015-2016

International Yoga Day- 21/06/2015

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated International Yoga Day. International Yoga Day

was celebrated by the students and faculty members with enthusiasm. Students demonstrated

yoga, asanas followed by Omkar chanting. Warm up exercises were done and all the students

performed various types of asanas. The celebrations concluded with synchronized recitation of

slogans and speech by the Chairman and the Principal. They encouraged students to practice

regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.

Observation of Literacy Day -15/07/2015

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated Literacy Day in the campus. The key idea

of the event was 'Literacy is human right and basis of all knowledge'. The concept of literacy was

elaborated among students in the morning assembly by the Student Representatives. Principal

said that literacy was the prime requisite for learning and played a vital role in restraining

population growth, curbing poverty, establishing gender impartiality and a bright promise for

growth. Students were encouraged to opine about the significance of the day. Students of senior

wing discussed their aspirations and future goals in the assembly.

Celebration of Independence Day-15/08/2015

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated 69th Independence Day. It is the day

when all get together to realize the freedom fighters who got independence for us. The program

started with March-past to welcome Mr.I.B.R.Ragupathy Raja, State Vice President, Tamil Nadu

Farmers Association, Chief guest hoisted the flag. Students performed March–Past. Founder &

Chairman (Captain) Dr. D.V.P.Raja of the institution delivered the special address.

Mr.D.V.Dharmasingh, Secretary felicitated the gathering. The Chief Guest delivered

Independence day address. Students performed cultural activities.

Observation of Elders Day- 1.10.2015

Elders day was conducted on 1st oct 2015 in the HRD hall. Dr.M. Kannan, Principal

welcomed the gathering and the programme was inaugurated by (Captain) Dr. D.V.P.Raja,

Founder & Chairman, MISS. Dr.D.Janet vasantha kumari, Associate Professor explained about

the disease and the problems faced by the elders. (Captain) Dr. D.V.P.Raja said it is the duty of

the every son and daughter to take care of their parents. The students actively participated in the

programme and raised questions and shared their views. This programme helped to improve the

knowledge of the students. This programme was very interactive and actively participated in the

debate.

Observation of International Youth Day- 12/01/2016

“National Youth Day” was celebrated on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary

by the students. The Chairman recollected the sayings of Swami Vivekananda to motivate the

students. The students’ representative narrated the life of Swami Vivekananda as a child, student

and a monk to the students. In addition, they also shared how Swamiji made an impact at the

Parliament of World Religions in Chicago. A quiz competition for the students was conducted.

Celebration of Republic Day -26/01/2016

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated the 67th Republic Day function by inviting

Dr.R.Jayaraman, Member Secretary (CED), Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest. The honourable

guest hoisted the national flag. The Chairman Dr. (Captain) D.V.P.Raja gave a motivational

speech and the students performed cultural events. Patriotic songs, folk dances, skit and speeches

were performed. The function ended with national anthem.

2016-2017

Observation of International Yoga Day - 21/06/2016

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences has celebrated the International Day of Yoga on 21st

June. Students and Faculties were participated with great enthusiasm. Students performed

standing asana and Yoga. The celebration was concluded with the speech by Chairman &

Founder and followed by the Principal. The Chairman encouraged students to practice regular

yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.

Observation of Literacy Day - 15/07/2016

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences has celebrated the Literacy Day. The theme of the

event was 'Reading the Past, Writing Future’. The importance of literacy was elaborated among

students in the morning assembly by the Student Representatives. Principal had given a speech

on Literacy. Finally all the students were advised to significantly contribute for improving the

Literacy rate in our country.

Celebration of Independence Day - 15/08/2016

Madurai Institute of Social Science has celebrated the 70th Independence Day

Celebration. The program started with a March-past for inviting the chief guest Dr. Augustus

Samuel Dodd, Grace Hennett Hospital, Madurai for hoisting the flag. The official ceremony was

chaired by Dr.(Captain) D.V.P.Raja, the Founder & Chairman, MISS. The chief guest delivered

the Independence Day message. He emphasised the importance of youth for making the country

proud. Mr. D.V. Dharmasingh, Secretary, felicitated the gathering. Program ended with national

anthem.

Observation of International Youth Day - 12/01/2017

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences has observed the National Youth Day on the

occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary on 12.1.2017. As part of the programme the

students went to the Ramakrishna Mutt at Madurai. They attended the chants and prayers. The

students went to the library and had a glimpse of the works related to Swami Vivekananda.

Observation of National voters Day- 25.1.2017

The students of Madurai Institute of Social Sciences were oriented about the importance of

voting and a civic responsibility on 25.1.2017. Students completed 18 years were informed to

collect the voter id by submitting the relevant documents. Orientation was given on obtaining the

voter id. After briefing, students took an oath to realise their civic responsibility. One of the

students read the content and the same was taken as oath by the other students in the college

prayer.

Celebration of Republic Day - 26/01/2017

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated 68th Republic Day. Mr. Dhanasekaran,

Deputy Director, Department of Social Defence, Madurai, was the Chief Guest. Dr. (Capt)

D.V.P.Raja, Chairman & Founder, MISS presided over the programme. The chief guest

highlighted the importance of upholding the virtue of the biggest democracy in the world. After

this, students performed cultural activities and the function ended with national anthem.

Field Visit to Madras High Court, Madurai Bench -2.2.2017

The first year students of Bachelor of Social Work visited the Madras High Court Bench,

Madurai . The purpose of this visit was to orient the student about the functioning of the bench

and oriented the students on fundamental rights, duties, legislations, ethics and values. Students

were oriented about the importance of being ethical by strictly adhering to the norms and values

that are accepted by the society and legislation. The students got opportunities to meet few

advocates in the high court bench. At the end of the orientation programme, the students said that

they would behave in the way that is socially and culturally accepted. They highlighted that they

understood the importance of ethics and values through the profession chosen by them.

2017-2018

Observation of International Yoga Day -21/06/2017

The Health Awareness centre, MISS celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st June. Mr.

Gangatharen, the Yoga master led the session. The session started by explaining the purpose and

benefits of the yoga. Students demonstrated asana. The yoga master advised the students to

practice yoga daily for physical and mental health. Dr.P.Ramasamy, the coordinator of Health

Awareness Centre proposed the vote of thanks.

Observation of Literacy Day on 15/07/2017

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated the Literacy Day on July 15, 2017. The

theme of the event was 'Literacy in the digital world’. The Literacy day was celebrated on the

birth anniversary of Kamarajar, Honourable Former Chief Minister. The need for literacy was

explained to the students in the assembly by the Student Representatives and the students were

asked to help the illiterate. All the students had attended the programme.

Independence Day Celebration on 15/08/2017

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated the 71th Independence Day. It is the day

when all get together to thank and remember our great freedom fighters who got independence to

our country. The program started with March-past by inviting the chief guest Dr.K.Kudalingam,

the former Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Madurai was the chief guests of the day

Students performed March–Past. Dr. Janet VasanthaKumari, Principal welcomed the gathering.

Dr. (Capt.) D.V.P. Raja Founder & Chairman delivered Presidential address on the occasion of

Independence day celebration. Students performed cultural program. The official programme

ended with National Anthem.

Observation of International Youth Day - 12/01/2018

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences observed National Youth Day Celebration on 12.1.2018 on

the theme “Safe Spaces for Youth. The theme of the day was explained to the students in the

college prayer. The students were motivated to come together, engage in activities related to

their diverse needs and interests, participate in decision making processes and freely express

themselves. Where they can come together, engage in activities related to their diverse needs

and interests, participate in decision making processes and freely express themselves. Safe

spaces include digital ones, which enable youth to interact virtually across borders with

everyone. Since Adolescent contribute for the 40% of the world population. So the students were

motivated to contribute for the development of peace and cohesion.

Republic Day Celebration- 26/01/2018

Madurai Institute of Social Sciences celebrated the 68th Republic Day function by inviting Mr .S.

Vishnu Shankar, Assistant General Manager, Telekom, Malaysia as the Chief Guest. The chief

guest made a remarkable speech on “Social responsibilities of the student community”. The chief

guest emphasised that every student is responsible for the nation’s growth. They should realise

their responsibility by the way of utilising the optimum resources provided by the college.

Students have to learn values as part of their education and be a light to the society. His speech

was really motivating and thought provoking. A group of students performed cultural activities

that depict our nation and its pride. The gathering was ended with national anthem.
