Bintang Pahlawan. K2208069. An Analysis on the Cohesion of Descriptive Text Written By the Third Grade Students of Private Course in the Academic Year of 2014/2015. A thesis. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret. Surakarta. 2016

The objectives of this research are to find out (1) the cohesive devices in the descriptive texts written by the third grade students of JS Course in the Academic Year of 2014-2015. (2) The use of cohesion of the descriptive text written by the third grade students of JS Course in the Academic Year of 2014-2015.

This research used qualitative method. It was descriptive study. The study was carried out in March 2015 at Joko Sarwono Private Course in Kleco and Cemani. The population was all the third grade students of Joko Sarwono Private Course which consist of two classes. The total number of the students was 13 students. The instruments in collecting the data was the essay test. The essay test was used to collect the data of the cohesion in the descriptive text.

The result of the data analysis shows that the students used six of seven cohesive devices to make the cohesion of the descriptive text written by them. And they understand to make the cohesion of the descriptive text.

Based on the result of the study, it is known that the student understand the use of cohesion of the text, based on 6 from 13 students or 46,15% that are really good in writing, 6 from 13 students or 46,15% that are good in writing, and only 1 from 13 students or 7,7% that is less good in writing. Mean of the result of the text are 15,6 from total score 20.

The result of this research shows that the cohesive devices are important factors that make the cohesion of the text written by the students. So cohesive device should be considered to make the students understand how to make the cohesion of the descriptive text written by the students.

ABSTRAK

Bintang Pahlawan.K2208069. An Analysis on the Cohesion of Descriptive Text Written By the Third Grade Students of Private Course in the Academic Year of 2014/2015. Skripsi. Program Studi Bahasa Inggris. Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan.Universitas Sebelas Maret. Surakarta. 2016.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi (1) cohesive devices pada teks descriptif yang ditulis oleh siswa kelas XII di JS Course Tahun Akademik 2014-2015. (2) Keterpaduan pada teks descriptive yang ditulis oleh siswa kelas XII di JS Course Tahun Akademik 2014-2015.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Penelitian ini adalah studi deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret 2015 di Joko Sarwono Private Course di Kleco dan Cemani. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas XII di Joko Sarwono Private Course yang terdiri dari dua kelas. Jumlah total dari siswa adalah 13 siswa. Instrumen untuk pemgumpulan data adalah tes tertulis. Tes tertulis digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data keterpaduan dalam teks deskriptif.

Hasil dari penelitan ini menunjukkan bahwa murid menggunakan enam dari tujuh cohesive devices untuk membuat keterpaduan pada teks deskripsi yang mereka tulis. Dan mereka mengerti cara membuat keterpaduan pada teks deskripsi

Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diketahui bahwa siswa mengerti keterpaduan dalam teks. Terbukti dari 6 dari 13 siswa atau 46,15% yang penulisan teksnya sangat baik, 6 dari 13 siswa atau 46,15% yang penulisan teksnya baik, dan hanya 1 dari 13 siswa atau 7,7% yang penulisannya kurang baik. Nilai rata-rata teks adalah 15,6 dari skor total 20.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa cohesive devices adalah faktor penting yang membuat keterpaduan pada teks yang ditulis oleh siswa. Jadi cohesive devices seharusnya dipertimbangkan untuk membuat siswa mengerti cara membuat keterpaduan pada teks deskriptif yang ditulis oleh siswa.
