• To maintain our fleet to the standard
we require, we need options
• Service experience for PMAs matches
that of OEM parts and sometimes
improves upon it
• Delta has found PMA parts to be
acceptable for use throughout the
aircraft, components and engines
Why PMA? More Options

Why PMA? They Work
• Delta is able to operate one of the most
reliable mainline fleets in the world
• 172 maintenance cancel free days in 2015*

737-NG / CFM56-7B IDG
• IDGs, on all fleets, are notorious for having reliability issues
• Even while being a reliability driver Delta continues to utilize
PMAs
• Parts include rotors, bearings and critical seals
• PMA parts integrate seamlessly into our maintenance
program

757-200 / PW2000 Starter
• Starters are critical for completion factor
• Delta has approved over 30 PMA parts for use on this
component alone
• Delta utilizes a PMA main shaft for the starter

757 / PW2000 Chip Detector
• Delta suffered a number of inflight shutdowns due to loss of
oil from improperly installed bayonet style chip detectors on
engine oil scavenge pumps
• In 2009, Delta authorized the use of a PMA screw-in chip
detector and there have been no inflight shutdowns due to
this issue since
PMA chip detectors help prevent inflight shutdowns
MD-90 T/R Blocker Door Links
• Delta started seeing failures on T/R blocker door links
• Parts usage exceeded the OEM’s ability to support
removals
• Delta was able to work with a PMA supplier to quickly
supplement our needs
• Delta was able to correct the issue with a fleet campaign
while minimizing operational disruption
Delta extensively uses PMA parts to support the
MD-90/V2500 Thrust Reversers
767 / CF6-80C2
• Delta has approved over 500 PMA parts for the 767 airframe
and components
• Over 320 PMA parts have been approved for use on the
CF6-80C2 engine
Delta utilizes a significant number of PMAs
in maintaining its engines

PW2000 HPT
• HPT second stage ring and vane assembly segment was
recently approved by Delta
• The part is in the gas path
• AD related and required AMoC
Critical parts are acceptable, but they do
require additional scrutiny
The Results
• Delta has safely utilized PMA parts for over 30 years
• In the last 15 years, we have approved over 2300 PMA parts
• Delta requires allowance for PMA use in our lease agreements
• Delta has built a strong relationship with PMA vendors that allows
us to address problems much more quickly than we could with
most OEMs
• Comfort with PMA has grown to the point that they are utilized in
even the most critical applications
• Engine hot sections and rotating equipment
• Life limited parts
• Windows
• Power Generation
