Step 2.MAKE THE FABRIC SQUARESTIP: Place your fabric squares on the rough sideof a sheet of medium grit sand paper to keep it from stretching or shifting while you draw your diagonal line.

    A. Place the rst 6 square WRONG side up on aat surface (on top of the sand paper). Use your chalk pencil and ruler, and draw a linediagonally across the square.

    B. Repeat Step 2A to mark the remaining 119 squares.

Step 3.MAKE THE BLOCKS A. Place a 6 square in the top left corner of the rst 16 1/2square with RIGHTsides together. Place the small square sothe marked line lays diagonally across the corner of the larger square. Match the raw edges and pin them in place. Stitchalong the marked line and backstitch* at each end.

    B. Then use your ruler, rotary cutter and mat and cut across thematched corners leaving 1/4 on the outside of the stitching

line to create a seam allowance*. Use your pressing cloth andpress the seam open. NOTE: Save the triangles that you cut off for the baby quilt.

    B. NOTE: The QuiltTop is sewn to-gether in horizon-tal rows. Startingat the top leftcorner, place therst and secondBlocks RIGHTsidestogether match-ing the adjoiningedges and theseams. Pin themin place. Stitch a1/4 seam alongthe pinned edgeand backstitch ateach end. Pressthe seam allow-ances open.

    C. Then place thethird Block RIGHT sides together matching theopposite edge of the second and pin it in place. Stitch a 1/4seam along the pinned edge and backstitch at each end. Pressthe seam allowances open.

    D. Repeat Step 4C to attach the remaining Blocks in this row. Setthe row back into your layout.

    E. Repeat Steps 4B through 4D to stitch the remaining 5 rows.

    F. Next, place the rst and second rows RIGHT sides together matching the seams and the adjoining edges. Pin themin place. Stitch a 1/4 seam along the pinned edge andbackstitch at each end. Press the seam allowances open.

print runs horizontally across the Back Panel, alternating each

    print.

To stitch-in-the-ditch, sew in the groove formed bythe seam.

    F. When the quilting is complete, use your ruler, rotary cutter andmat and trim the Quilt Back and batting even with the Quilt Top.

    G. Hand or machine baste* very close to the raw edges com-pletely around the Quilt. This will secure the layers together before adding your binding. To machine baste, use the longest stitch on your machine,

so you can easily remove the basting stitches later if needed. Do not backstitch at either end o f your stitching.

Step 8.MAKE AND ATTACHTHE BINDINGA. Attach thestrips into one longcontinuous pieceby placing the rst 2strips perpendicular to each other withRIGHTsides together.Match the edgesand pin them inplace. Stitch a seamdiagonally acrossthe pinned edgeand backstitch ateach end.

1/4 on the outsideof the stitching line to create a seam allowance. Press the seamopen. Trim any fabric tails along the edges. Continue to at-tach the remaining strips to complete the binding.

    C. Then fold the binding in half lengthwise with WRONG sidestogether. Match the long edges and press a crease along thefolded edge.

    D. Place the RIGHTside of the Quilt Top facing up. Start at thecenter along one side edge, and match the raw edges of thebinding and Quilt, stopping at the rst corner. Pin them in place.

    E. Leave the rst 5 unstitched, then sew a 1/4 seam, stopping1/4 from the rst corner and backstitch at each end. Clip thethreads and remove the quilt from your machine.

    F. To form a neat mitered corner, fold the binding away fromthe corner forming a 45 angle. Then fold it back even with thenext raw edge and pin i t in place. Leave the folded edge ofthe binding even with the rst edge that was sewn.

    G. Begin stitching again at the edge of the Quilt, backstitchingas you begin. Continue to pin and sew along the edge, stopping 1/4 from the next corner and backstitch again.

    H. Repeat Steps 8F and 8G to miter the remaining corners andsew the rest of the binding in place. Stop stitching 10 fromwhere you rst began. Backstitch again.
