COMBINING TAROT AND TALISMANS

How to add lasting impact to a Tarot reading by combining the cards with the use of talismans and other magical objects or jewelry.

FORMAT:

• Work with a Tarot spread to get really clear on the intention or goal you want to manifest

• Create an affirmation/mantra/power statement that expresses that intention

• Ritual and visualization to consecrate your talisman and lock in that intention

• How to work with your talisman going forward

THE IMPORTANCE OF RITUAL:

• A Tarot reading itself is a RITUAL

• We are creating sacred space, a feeling, an experience

• By creating a talisman we create a touchstone that can evoke the feeling of that reading, a remembrance of what was discovered

• The reading is a ritual, creating the talisman is a ritual, they are intertwined and support each other

AMULETS, TALISMANS AND LUCKY CHARMS:WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

AMULETS ARE PROTECTIVE IN NATURE

They ward off danger, illness or misfortune.

TALISMANS ARE ACTIVE

They are consecrated for a particular purpose.

They are charged with intention and energy to manifest a specific desire or outcome.

LUCKY CHARMS

Somewhere in between.

Protective and attracting good luck.

HOW DO TALISMANS WORK?

• Touchstone

• Focus of intention

• Putting our intention out into the universe

• Incorporate your own spiritual practices

FACTORS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN CREATING YOUR TALISMAN:

• Clearing your Talisman

• Timing

• Material

• Set the intention you wish to manifest

• Consecrate your talisman with a personal ritual

• Working with your talisman after the ritual

CLEARING YOUR TALISMAN:

• Create a blank slate for your intention and magical work

• Use your preferred method of clearing/cleansing

• Sage, incense, palo santo

• Visualization

• Singing bowl or bell

• Moonlight

TIMING:

• Choose the most appropriate time to consecrate your talisman

• Astrologer

• Moon phase

• Day of the week

• Personally significant date

• Right now

MATERIAL:

• Sympathetic magic – like produces like

• Crystals

• Symbolic form

• Item of personal significance

SET THE INTENTION YOU WISH TO MANIFEST:

• Get clear on what it is you want to achieve or manifest

• The more specific, the better

• Be open for the outcome to arrive in the most beneficial way even if that is different than you expect

• Be ready to work for it rather than waiting around

CONSECRATE YOUR TALISMAN:

• Create a personal ritual to lock your intention into that talisman and consecrate it to your purpose

• Trust that it is going to work

• Wear or carry it

• Later I will suggest ways to work with your talisman beyond this

• I have been using Talismans and Tarot separately for the same purpose, to help me to manifest my intentions and goals.

TAROT CARDS THEMSELVES AS TALISMANS

• Actively choose a card to inspire you and to help you manifest a desire or goal

• Put it where you can see it daily, meditate with it, use the image to focus your will and intention

MY PRACTICE:

Combining the Tarot with a crystal, gemstone, metal or other natural material talisman, usually a piece of jewelry, with the intention of manifesting a goal or desire

THE PROCESS:

• Start with a general idea of what you want to manifest in your life

• Work with a Tarot spread to explore the situation, in order to get to laser sharp clarity concerning what I want to manifest

• Use the message from the cards to create an affirmation/mantra/power sentence or phrase that expresses my intention

• Seal that intention into to the talisman using a personalized visualization and ritual

• Continue to work with the talisman until the intention is manifested

• Think about an intention or a goal you want to manifest

• How do you want to feel? What do you want to achieve?

• Can be very practical, or inner work

• Look through your deck and choose ONE card that most closely matches this goal or looks like how you want to be or feel

• Like a hopes and fears position

• May reveal fears that are holding you back

• May give clearer insight into your own motivations

3. HOW CAN I MANIFEST THIS INTENTION?

• Look for practical, action steps

• May be indicating inner work or a beneficial attitude

• How to best approach your intention

• Get an idea of resources you have at your disposal

4. HOW WILL MANIFESTING THIS INTENTION IMPACT MY LIFE?

• Can be confirmation that you are on the right track

• If a challenging card comes up, or if the outcome isn’t really what you want, you may need to step back and reassess

• Look for the beneficial message in this card – is this a challenge that will bring growth? Release? A necessary change or ending?

• Don’t immediately dismiss it if it looks negative at first glance

• Leave it open to the universe and your guides to show you what you need to see

• Again, take time to reflect if it is a challenging card

• Create an intention/affirmation/power phrase that encapsulates that message

• First person, active, present voice

• Positive, empowering approach

• Can include timing if helpful

VISUALIZATION AND RITUAL

• Have your Tarot card from the #5 position in front of you

• Place your KEY on the card, anywhere that feels right

• Guided visualization and ritual to lock that intention into your talisman

CONTINUED PRACTICE WITH YOUR TALISMAN

• Wear it or carry it with you

• Say your affirmation in the morning as you put on your talisman and at night before you go to sleep

• Meditation and visualization

• Journal about your accomplishments as you work towards your goals

• Create a practice of meditation or visualization for a set length of time

• Destroy your talisman?

• Conduct a ritual of gratitude and release for your talisman

• On going practice, charge your talisman as necessary or on a significant day
