An amphibious vehicle (or simply

amphibian),

is a vehicle or craft, that is a means of

transport, viableon land as well as on water just like an

amphibian.

h      Some of the earliest known amphibious vehicles were amphibious

carriages, the invention of which is credited to the notorious

Neapolitan Prince Raimondo di Sangro of Sansevero (ca. 1750) or SirSamuel Bentham (1781).

h      The first known self-propelled amphibious vehicle, a steam-powered

wheeled dredging barge, named the Orukter Amphibolos, was

conceived and built by United States inventor Oliver Evans in 1805,although it is disputed to have successfully travelled over land or water

under its own steam.

ATVs-All Terrain Vehicles

Typically an Amphibious ATV or  AATV  is a

small, lightweight, off-highway vehicle,

constructed from an integral

hard plastic or fibreglass body tub,

fitted with six (sometimes eight) driven wheels, with low pressure, balloon tires.

CARS

It is Water resistant & chassis is made of light

weight alloy( aluminum)

Water drive is by a propeller which is retracted

by an electric motor. The front wheels do the

steering in water.

Buses -Amphibious buses are employed in some locations as a tourist attraction.

Armored

Many modern military vehicles, ranging from light wheeled command and

reconnaissance, through armoured personnel carriers and tanks,

are manufactured with amphibious capabilities.

Some light tanks such as the PT-76 are

amphibious, typically being propelled in the

water by hydrojets Or by their tracks, and

could swim across bodies of water

Some military vehicles are not truly amphibious

but are capable of "wading" using waterproof

screens to keep the upper hull dry. given

waterproofed hulls and trunking was fixed to the

engine intakes and exhausts to allow them to

come ashore from landing craft in shallow water.

An air-cushion vehicle (ACV) or hovercraft is designed for travelling

over land or water supported by a cushion of slow moving, low-pressure air ejected downwards

against the surface below it. In principle a hovercraft can travel over any sufficiently smooth

surface, solid, liquid, mixed, or anything in between.

Hovercraft

A hovercraft has one or more blowers that

blow air underneath the craft, which is

contained by a skirt.

The skirt that is around the perimeter of the

hovercraft performs an extremely important

function in containing the air cushion.

By using a skirt, the amount of engine power

required to lift the craft is considerablyreduced and as an added benefit, extra hull

surface clearance is obtained.

The skirt is a long strip of material that is

mounted onto the underside of the craft.

When the skirt is inflated, it lifts the hovercraft. The escaping air coming from where the

skirt touches the ground is what creates a friction-less cushion of air. Because the

hovercraft has practically no friction, it takes little force to move the craft.
