General Mathematics is designed to promote the development of skills, knowledge and understanding in areas of mathematics that have direct application to the broad range of human development.

Financial Mathematics

Statistics

Measurement (area,volume and trigonometry)

Probability

Algebra

General Mathematics

Who is this course designed for ? Students who have completed Stage 5.3

or 5.2 in Year 9 and 10. Students who have excelled in Stage 5.1. This course is designed for the majority of

student who will study maths in the senior school

Students who will be studying an university course that has no requirement for mathematics as assumed knowledge eg arts, law, social science, education

Mathematics

The Mathematics course is intended to give students an understanding of and competence in further aspects of mathematics which have some application to the real world.

Who is this course designed for ? Students who have completed

Stage 5.3 Maths or who have excelled in Stage 5.2 Maths in Years 9 and 10.

Extension 1

The Extension 1 Mathematics course is an extension of the Mathematics course.

Extension 1 The topics include all the ones from the

Mathematics Course (with additional content) as well as

Inverse FunctionsPolynomialsBinomial TheoremFurther Probability

This course is studied in additional teaching time ie 16 lessons each cycle. Some of these lessons maybe outside of usual school hours eg starting at 7.30am.

Who is course designed for ? Students who have excelled in

Advanced Maths in Year 9 and 10 This is a prerequisite for Extension

2 Maths in Year 12 Students who require substantial

mathematics at university level eg

Engineering, science
