Overview of the Process• Students will go through the information in their Careers/Study Skills class• Information Evening• HOLAs will talk to all students about their LA’s offerings• ***Formal Course Counselling sessions (parents are warmly encouraged to
attend)
• Students use the online process to select courses→ prerequisites must be taken into account, expectations must be realistic
• Year 11 “grid” is created• Some Courses may not run → re-selection
• Parents and students can contact for information at any time • Work hard, good study habits. Big jump from Year 10 → Year 11
So… what is the WACE?
Successful completion of Years 11 and 12
How my child achieves a WACE
• Year 9 NAPLAN Band 8 P or OLNA Level 3 P
• Completes at least 20 units (= 10 courses) over Years 11 and 12 P
• Completes an English course in Year 11 and Year 12 ✓
• Completes at least one List A course (eg REL, ENG, HASS, ARTS) ✓
• Completes at least one List B course (eg MAT, SCI, PES, TECH) ✓
• Achieves 14 C Grades (or better) over Years 11 and 12. (14 C grades = C grades in 7 year long courses) ✓
• Achieves at least 6 of these C Grades (or better) at Year 12 level ✓

ATAR (Uni) Pathway Year 11Students must meet the prerequisites for entrance to these courses

Must have a minimum of 4 ATAR courses
Religion and Life and an English course are compulsory selections

• Ranked position in the total WA Year 12 school leaving
age population
• A student receiving an ATAR of 70.00 means they have
performed better than 70% of all the Year 12 school
leaving age people in WA that year
• A 70 ATAR is an average mark of about 55% for the
student's top 4 ATAR courses

General Pathway Year 11Students must select 6 courses (Religion and Life and English are compulsory selections)
• Select 6 General coursesOR
• Select 5 General courses and 1 Certificate II (or higher) courseOR
• Select 4 General courses and 2 Certificate II (or higher) coursesOR
• Select 4 General courses, 1 Certificate II course and WPLOR
• PAiS (Pre Apprenticeship in Schools – see p 201 for specific criteria)OR
• Other combinations from the VET offerings
Blended Pathway Year 11• A student may select a combination of ATAR, General and Certificate courses
as their academic pathway
• The "blended" pathway enables students to study up to 3 ATAR courses in combination with General or Certificate courses to make up the required 6 courses in Year 11
• This is not a pathway for direct entry to university
• Students must meet the prerequisites for ATAR courses
• Students may not choose Certificate courses or VET courses that take them out of school for one or two days. This includes Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation because of the camp component
Curtin UniReady
Eligible Year 11 students at Nagle will have the opportunity to commence study in the Curtin UniReady course in 2021.
Students who successfully complete four Curtin UniReady units will receive a notional ATAR score of 70 for entrance to Curtin University.
Two UniReady units (Communications and Academic Writing) will be offered in Year 11 and the remaining two units will be offered in Year 12. This program is taught by Nagle teachers in conjunction with Curtin University.
There are conditions with regards to studying UniReady courses. Please refer to p 15 of the Year 11 Handbook for details about applying for entry to this course.
