Lesson 1 - Monday

This Week’s Curious Learning Question

How do plants survive

in hot weather?

Learn

What are the four seasons?

Which season has the hottest weather?

Do you know in which season the days are longer?

Summer is the season with the hottest weather.

Days are longer as in Summer we get more sunlight from the Sun’s rays.If you want to find out more about why we have seasons and why days are longer, watch Bill Nye:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUU7IyfR34o&safe=active

Draw a beach in Summer.Task

Write 4 adjectives to describe the season Summer.

Lesson 2 - Tuesday

RecapWhat season are we experiencing now? What is the next season?

Can you put the months of Spring and Summer in order?

May

July

April

June

March

August

This Week’s Curious Learning Question

How do plants survive

in hot weather?

Learn

Plants and trees have adapted so they can survive in all weather conditions.

How many different types of weather can you

think of?

We will look what this means tomorrow.

What was the weather like yesterday? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mgK2FQVc54&safe=active

Create a weather journal. Complete yesterday (Monday’s) weather and today’s (Tuesday).

Lesson 3 - Wednesday

Recap

How many different types of weather can you name?

Complete today’s weather on your Weather Journal.

This Week’s Curious Learning Question

How do plants survive

in hot weather?

LearnPlants and trees have adapted so they can survive in all weather conditions.

Adaptation is where plants or animals have changed so they can survive where they live.

Polar bears have adapted to the cold by having a thick fur coat to keep them warm. Can you think of any other ways a polar bear has adapted to survive?

Here are some plants that have adapted for hot weather:

cactus

Mexican poppy

acacia tree

palm tree

Can you find out the names of any others?

yucca

aloe vera

Choose your favourite plant that can survive in hot weather and draw it.

Task

Find out some facts about your chosen plant.

Lesson 4 – Thursday

Recap

What does adapted or adaptation mean?

Can you name any plants that have adaptedto survive in hot weather?

Don’t forget to update your Weather Journal!

This Week’s Curious Learning Question

How do plants survive

in hot weather?

Learn

Plants and trees have adapted so they can survive in all weather conditions.

Adaptation is where plants or animals have changed so they can survive where they live.

Let’s look at a cactus to discover how it has adapted

for the hot weather.

Stem

The stem stores water.

This means when it doesn’t rain for a long time, the cactus has water to stay alive.

A waxy coating also means less water is lost.

Due to this, the cactus can live for over a year without rain!

Wow!

No leaves?

A cactus does not have any leaves.

Instead it has spines or thorns.

This means less water is lost.

Photosynthesis happens in the green stem instead!

Roots

The roots are spread out wide and deep to search and find as much water as possible.

Create a poster about the cactus.

Task

Use these websites and your own research to add extra facts:

Explain how it can survive in a hot, dry desert.
