KS4 Option ChoicesStretford High School KS4curriculum:In Year 10 & 11 all students will
automatically take a core set ofsubjects: English GCSE (& English
Literature for some) Maths GCSE Science Double Award GCSE or
BTEC Core PEIn addition learners will sit up to fouroptional subjects. These will beselected from the list in this booklet.
What you need to do: Discuss with your child the subjects that
they enjoy and the future areas that they
might like to study or work in in the future. Come to Parents Evening on Thursday 7th
March from 4-7pm and discuss potentialchoices with the relevant subject teachers.

If you need further advice speak with yourchilds Learning Tutor, Head of House,Progress Mentor or Mr Stucke or Mrs
Brindley. Choose the top six subjects that your child
would like to do in Y10 & 11. Submit the top 6 choices via the form that
has been emailed to your child.
What we will do: Explain choices and process to
your child. Support you in making the right
choices. Take the top 6 choices of each
student and build 4 option blocksthat satisfy the most studentspossible.
Inform you of the 4 subjects thatyour child will be taking next year.

Technology Psychology Religious Education Resistant Materials Triple Science (Biology,
Chemistry & Physics) Sociology Spanish Textile Design Urdu
All students will take Science as one of their core
lessons, but if they wish to do Triple Science in order
to gain separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry &
Physics they will need to take it as one of their 4
options. This is due to the additional time required to
study for the 3 GCSEs.AS-Maths and Triple Science are only suitable for
those targeted an A*-B in those GCSEs.All GCSEs will be examined at the end of the course in
Summer 2015, they may also have a Controlled
Assessment (coursework) element.
GCSE Options CreativeMedia
Production BTEC Dance BTEC
Sport BTEC
BTEC qualifications are mainly coursework based.
Students will produce a portfolio of work through their
time on the course. There will be a small examinedelement to the course.The BTEC courses that we run are all well respectedby local Colleges. Whilst these courses will only count
as 1 GCSE in school league tables students will gain
a qualification of real value.
