Five injured in Tinley Manor accident
By Xpress Reporter
Five people were injured after a bakkie overturned on the N2 south in Tinley Manor on Saturday, 21 March 2015.
According to Chris Botha of Netcare, the bakkie was travelling on the north bound lane when it veered off the road and overturned, the crumpled remains coming to rest on its roof in the south bound lane.
“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frame of the vehicle,” said Botha. He added that after medics treated the injured at the scene, they transported them to various hospitals.

Community leaders meet with MayorBy Xpress Reporter
Members of the Muslim community representing the S t a n g e r S u n n i M u s l i m Congregation (SSMC) and Zakariyya Muslim School (ZMS) met with the KwaDukuza Municipality Mayor: Councillor Ricardo Mthembu to discuss various issues on Wednesday, 18 March 2015.
Yusuf Nakooda of the SSMC expressed their gratitude to the KwaDukuza Municipal i ty (KDM) for the installation of
SAPS Commissioner condemns vigilantism
in KwaDukuzaBy Xpress Reporter
The extreme acts of vigilantism this past few weeks dwarfs the history of the way previous KwaDukuza vigilantes, the likes of the late Riaz “Cheetah” Moolla dealt with petty robbers.
UMbongeni Mzobe (35) was allegedly assaulted by members of the community in Thembeni after they accused him of committing theft in the area on Saturday at 10:55am
He was was taken to hospital for medical attention where he later succumbed to his injuries. A case of murder was opened for investigation at the KwaDukuza SAPS.
Then two weeks ago six men allegedly assaulted Siyabonga Myeza, who was suspected of robbery. Myeza was allegedly fatally assaulted at the cemetery. (see Caught in Court)
KwaDukuza Mayor: Councillor Ricardo Mthembu
Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni (KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner) condemned the killing of Mzobe.
“We want to once again discouragepeople from taking the law into their own hands and caution that those found to be breaking the law will be prosecuted.”
Commissioner Ngobeni urgesmembers of the KwaDukuzacommunity to work together with the police by providing information with regards to the suspects involved in this murder so that they can be arrested.
Whilst we welcome greatercommunity involvement in the fight against crime, we appeal to our citizens to hand over those that have been found committing crimes to police so that our courts can pass an appropriate sentence that fits the crime,” she said.
lights at the cemetery and for marking the parking bays.
He also addressed the issues of the lack of parking at Musjid Noor and traffic congestion at ZMS.
“The traffic outside ZMS in Mahatma Ghandi Street has been an issue in discussion with KDM for about 10 years. This negatively affects the free flow of traffic and is a danger to pedestrians and scholars,” said Nakooda.
C o u n c i l l o r M t h e m b u suggested providing a pointsman
during peak hours and made arrangements for a meeting with relevant departments.
“A meeting will definitely be organised as this is something that cannot be delayed,” said Mayor Mthembu.

Learners take the leadBy Xpress Reporter
The community of G l e n h i l l s c a m e together to lend their collective voice to the rampant crime that has plagued parts of the area in the past month.
T h e c r i m e awareness campaign was organised by the ward 13 Glenhills Operation Sakuma Sakhe war room in conjunction with the Glenhills MPCC.
The ground zero was t h e K w a D u k u z a Community Resource Centre in Glenhills in which community members, the ward 13 committee members, Glenhills Secondary learners, KwaDukuza Municipality Traffic and Crime Prevention, KwaDukuza SAPS and paramedics IPSS and Alert gathered to start the protest march on Friday, 20 March 2015.
Approximately 100 Glenhills Secondary learners along with the community carried placards and got anti crime chants going as they traversed the undulating roads of Glenhills in the signature sweltering heat that KwaDukuza citizens are accustomed to.
Glenhills Ward Councillor B Dlavana joined the march throughout its entirety and spoke to the Xpress Times about some issues affecting the community.
D l a v a n a s p o k e a b o u t t h e challenges that he and his ward committee faced and said that he was well aware of the crime in the area. The thorny issue of criminals hiding in bushes was spoken about and he said: “There are guys who just sit in the bushes and people think that they are criminals and they are not.”
He also spoke about the challenges of dealing with many complaints from his constituency (Ward 13) and explained that he had to pay from his own pocket for a personal assistant to handle inquiries.
Credit must be given to t h e e d u c a t o r s o f Glenhills Secondary as well who watched over their learners amid the blistering heat. The learners and part of the community walked from “ground zero” meeting up with learners, who also held up placards; at the Stanger Training Centre where Councillor Dlavana handed over a m e m o r a n d u m t o Colonel Nene amid anti crime and anti drug chants.
The protest march a w o k e t h e q u i e t community of Glenhills to the situation some may not have been aware off until its next stop at the Glenhills Primary School where its learners lined the sidewalk with even more placards and l o u d e r c h a n t i n g emanating. Cue the Ward 13 War room convenor Sethabi le Nxumalo and the MPCC
WE THE PEOPLE: Glenhills ward Councillor B Dlavana (right) hands over a memorandum to Colonel Nene of the KwaDukuza SAPS
Centre Manager. Throughout the campaign she was on the hailer getting the anti crime chants going and spoke to the Xpress Times after the protest.
The impassioned convenor said that they were trying to convey that the Glenhills community can become a united front in combating crime hence the involvement of schools.
“We not only want to raise awareness in the streets of Glenhills but also in our schools, we want young people to become actively involved in ridding the Glenhills community of social ills such as crime,” she said.
Nxumalo referred to the Glenhills community “has been heavily perforated with crime” in light of recent reports on the news and several other unreported incidents and felt the need to address this in a form of a programme that would be informative to both young and old.
“It is also making the public aware of the fact that we are not blind to such acts and we are concerned enough to rise up and voice out our discontent with the recent criminal activities taking place in our ward.
“The campaign was also an effort to urge law enforcement to work
together with the community towards creating awareness and lowering the levels of crime in the Glenhills area, said Nxumalo.
She also said that the participation
of SAPS and the KDM Community Safety in the war room is promising in that strategic and practical action plans will be developed in order for them to combat crime in ward 13.

They chased the fleeing youth and apprehended him and seized the knife and cellphone which she identified. Bongani Ngcobo (30), a worker at a local lounge suite factory in the area could not explain the reason behind his actions. He will seek bail this week.
Smart AlexSome police officers have
shown potential at solving crime. According to Amina Bhorat (83), she was alone at her Greyridge Drive house during February. She was approached by a man who normally cleans her yard in the company of another person. On being told that she had no work for them, the pair rough-handled her, locked her in her bedroom and fled with R2000 cash. She used her spare key to release herself and police were alerted. As one culprit was well-known to her she handed his phone number to police. The investigating officer contacted the culprit and introduced himself as a potential client for garden services. Arrangements were made to meet and upon meeting, the officer arrested Calvin Mhambi (30). He has been remanded in custody pending a bail enquiry. His accomplice remains at large.

Stanger Heights Primary School commemorated World Tuberculosis (TB) Day yesterday, 24 March 2015. The day aims to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of nearly one-and-a-half million people each year, mostly in developing countries.
It commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch astounded the scientific community by announcing that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. At the time of Koch's announcement in

Vulamehlo Hospice in Melville has been a haven of hope for many people with incurable diseases and their families in and around KwaDukuza for many years.
A visit to the office of the Mayor of iLembe District Municipality, His Worship Councillor SW Mdabe was made by the Secretary of Vulamehlo to inform the district's head about the hardship the organisation is facing.
Located just 10km from the KwaDukuza Central Business District, the hospice could be closing as its funding from Lotto
CREATING AWARENESS:
Learners of Stanger Heights Primary
School raise awareness about TB
Commemorating World TB DayBerlin, TB was raging through Europe and the Americas, causing the death of one out of every seven people. Koch's discovery opened the way towards diagnosing and curing TB.
South Africa has one of the highest reported TB infection rates in the world. TB is a chronic infectious disease that usually affects the lungs and is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB is spread mainly through the air.
When infectious people cough, sneeze, talk, or spit, droplets containing bacteria are sprayed into the air. People nearby may inhale
these bacteria and become infected. Bacteria can stay air-borne for a
long time, and can remain active in house dust for weeks. However, transmission usually occurs only after substantial exposure to someone with active TB. You are unlikely to get TB from someone coughing in a public place and you cannot get TB from handshakes, toilet seats, sharing eating utensils or clothing with people who have TB.
Symptoms include:• A cough that starts out dry but
later produces sputum (thick liquid from deep inside the lungs) or blood

Some peop le h a v e m i l d symptoms or none at all. People may therefore spread bacteria without knowing they have TB. Preventive t h e r a p y ( P T ) a g a i n s t T B
involves people at high-risk for infection taking anti-TB medication to prevent progression to active disease.
People with active TB are usually treated with several anti-TB drugs: this is more effective in killing all the bacteria and preventing them from becoming drug resistant. Visit your local hospital/clinic for more information about TB.
District Mayor's family assists Hospice

His Worship along with municipal officials from the District Municipality visited Vulamehlo to assess the situation.

Last week, the First Lady of iLembe, Mrs Thembi Mdabe led a

In bottom half of the draw Pillay and Naidoo accounted for PreggieAppadora and Samad Ebrahim 2-1 to book a semi-final whilst Charlie Pillay and Dhana Govender had to dig in their reserves to overcome the rampant Nine Pillay and Jerry Arunachellam 2-1 to move into the semi-final against Pillay and Naidoo.
The form of Singh and Padayachee and Pillay and Naidoo continued into the semi-final as they easily disposed of Rungasamy and Pillay a n d C h a r l i e a n dGovender beating them 2-0 to set up a mouth-watering final.
Pillay and Naidoo were in scintillating form as they beat the experienced Singh and Padayachee 2-0 t o b e c r o w n e dchampions.

Things in my life went from good to
worse in a very short time. My love
life, financial problems jealousy, my husbands family
were all against me. Luckily I came across MAAMA BAHAT through a friend. She did
miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anything to
her. She showed me the people who worked hard to see me suffering some of which
were my friends and relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed away all
my bad luck and cleansed my home, gave me a love potion with a ring for my financial
problems in less than five days, my husband was always by my side and my
enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness.

Lauren and Patrick were very, very happy. They were off to spend the day with their grandma and grandpa. It was always exciting at their grandparent's home. Grandpa told them interesting stories while grandma made the most delicious cakes and pies, but most of all they loved grandma and grandpa. Grandma Anne and Grandpa Bob lived in a quaint little cottage surrounded by beautiful flowers and shrubs in the front garden and an orchard at the back.
It was a school holiday, and not a public holiday, so Mummy and Daddy had to work.
Daddy had phoned ahead to let their grandparents know that they were on their way, so they were surprised to find no one home when their dad knocked. Oh, where could they be? The door was closed but the windows were open, so that meant that they were not very far away. "Ah," said mummy, "Let's go see in the garden." Sure enough; there they were, picking apples.
Grandpa was on a ladder picking green apples off the tree, before, placing it in a basket, hung on the ladder. Nearby, grandma was filling a basket with red apples. Watching, they knew that the red juicy apples were for them to munch on and the green ones were for an apple pie. "Grandma! Grandpa!” shouted Lauren and Patrick together, startling grandma and grandpa, so, that grandpa nearly fell off the ladder! “Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” exclaimed grandpa, when the ladder slid sideways! Luckily, the ladder was a short one and not very far from the ground, so, grandpa just hopped off, quickly rescuing the basket of apples before it fell to the ground! "Ha! Ha! Ha!" I nearly turned into Humpty Dumpty there, didn't I?" laughed grandpa. Everyone's cry of concern changed to a laughter of relief, that grandpa was fine. “Oh Lauren and Patrick how lovely it is to see you all,” chuckled grandma; hugging the children. “Sorry, we thought,” looking at grandpa, “we'd be done with the picking before you arrived,” apologised grandma. “It's all right grandma and grandpa,” smiled

L a u r e n , “ w e f o u n d y o u . ” “Yes,” piped up, Patrick, “you were lost, only for a short while.” “Lost? Oh! Yes, thank you for finding us, Lauren and Patrick,” said grandpa.
Then daddy said that he and mummy had to be on their way, promising to pick them up later
“Come” said, grandma opening the door, after waving goodbye to mummy and daddy.
“Let's go inside.” They all went inside, and straight to the shiny yellow kitchen, where everything was as bright as sunshine. A big bowl of colourful vegetables stood on the tab le , ready to be cooked, brightening the kitchen further. “What do you two say to lamb stew for lunch,” said Grandma giving each of them a glass of orange juice and an apple each. “Yummy,” they said in agreement. “And, chocolate cake for tea” smiled, grandma. “A double yummy, grandma” beamed Patrick. “Oh, Patrick,” you're too sweet, you too Lauren,” said grandma. Smiling fondly at Lauren and Patrick, “we do love you.” “That we do,” agreed grandpa, ruffling Patrick's hair. They drank their juice and ate the apples while grandpa told them a story called, The Elephant and The Crocodile. Grandpa completed the story just as grandma, said, “There, that's the stew done, now, the chocolate cake.” So, while grandma measured, sifted, mixed, whipped and separated egg yolks from the whites; grandpa told them all a story called, The Secret of the Golden Mountain. Lauren who had the ability to listen and watch at the same time - her mummy called it multi-tasking - listened to grandpa and, just as keenly watched her grandma bake. So, she watched as grandma placed 3 tablespoons of cocoa in a bowl, to which was added half a cup of hot water and half a of cup oil. Grandma mixed it well, and allowed it too cool. Next, she added a cup of sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla essence and then, four egg yolks, giving it all a good stir. In another bowl grandma sifted a cup of cake flour with two teaspoons baking powder and a pinch of salt.
The cocoa mixture was then added to the flour mixture and mixed until well blended. Then grandma beat four egg whites with two teaspoons of baking powder until stiff. This she folded into the cocoa mixture. The mixture was then spooned, equally, into two greased and lined 20cm sandwich tins and placed in the preheated moderate oven, 180 degrees Celsius to bake for 20 to 25 minutes. The smell of the baking chocolate cake filled the little kitchen.
“Smells scrumptious, grandma,” said Lauren.
The Secret of The Golden Mountain completed, grandpa sniffed the air and said that grandma had a secret, of her own, as to why her chocolate cake was yummier than other chocolate cakes. “Do tell grandma,” chorused the children. “Then it won't be a secret, will it?” said grandma, smiling broadly, then, in a loud kind of whisper she said, “Just add an extra tablespoon of cocoa.” This made everyone laugh.
After a lunch of tasty lamb stew, brimming with the colourful vegetables, crusty bread, spread with margarine, and, after they helped grandma tidy the kitchen, they all took a walk around the garden. Later, while grandma and grandpa sat on the garden-seat Lauren and Patrick played on the swings. Then, it was time to ice the cake.
Grandma split the cakes that were cooling on a wire- rack. 250 ml whipped fresh cream folded into a can of smoothly beaten caramel to layer the cake. Adding crumpled flaky chocolate between layers and on top. Eaten with a cup of hot chocolate, it was the 'awesome-est' cake ever according to Patrick and Lauren giggled in agreement, nodding her head.
Soon it was time to go home. The taste of grandma's stew and chocolate cake lingering on their tongue and grandpa's stories still ringing in their ears, Lauren and Patrick waved goodbye to grandma and grandpa, until the next time.

Easter Knockout Cup which gets underway on Thursday, March 26 and R2 000 will be ploughed into the Corporate League K.O. Cup which is scheduled to take place on April 22.
Eight teams comprising of Grove End, KSST, Randsons, Warriors Sport, Frendz, Cool Leaders, Manor Old Boys and Darnall United will contest the Easter K.O. Cup.
At the draws held on Thursday at The Quartz Cenference Centre, Aslam Randeree (coach of the Randsons outfit) was grinning from ear to ear after his side were drawn against rookies Cool Leaders in the first round of the competition.
Randsons are expected to sail into the next round with a semi-final clash against Warriors Sport, who are hardly expected to work up a sweat in their match against Manor Old Boys.
Randsons and Warriors Sport
have produced some entertaining, mouth-watering action throughout 2014 and are expected to whet the appetites of volleyball enthusiasts in their anticipated semi-final clash.
In the bottom half of the draws, newly crowned KDVA Top 8 champions, Grove End and runners-up KSST will meet in the opening round of the Easter K.O. Cup. After their lack-lustre performance in the final of the Top 8 K.O. Cup, KSST will be hoping to get their act together in the hope of returning to winning ways.
However, Grove End are strongly fancied to sweep aside KSST and secure a semi-final clash against the winner of the Darnall United/Frendz clash. Darnall will be hoping to avenge their defeat at the hands of Frendz in the Top 8 K.O. Cup and will be relying on the lanky Malcolm Reddy and Nishendra “Niknaks” Dhaver to guide them into the semi's.
Prize-money will be awarded to the top four finishers. The winner will walk away R1 500 richer with the runner-up set to collect R1 000. The 3rd and 4th teams will pocket R700 and R500 respectively. The semi's is scheduled for April 2 with the final scheduled to take place on April 9. KDVA will kick-off their league programme on April 16 with the Ralph Reuben memorial K.O. In a KwaZulu Natal T20 game played on Sunday in Phoenix, local outfit Dawnheights trounced hosts Phoenix by a phenomenal 9 wickets. The match was reduced to 14 overs due to a wet outfield.
Dawnheights won the toss and elected to field first and they backed up their skipper's decision with scintillating bowling and fielding to restrict the Phoenix outfit to a paltry 35/7 in the 14 overs. The top scorer for Phoenix was Ganesh who himself failed to reach double figures himself scoring a lowly 8 runs. Suveer Maharaj was the destroyer-in-schief claiming 3 wickets from 3 overs and conceding just 7 runs. Dawnheights raced to the winning total of 36 losing just a solitary wicket in 5 overs. Mohammed Shezaad was in devastating form with the bat smashing two huge sixes and two fours in his quick-fire 28 of just 12 balls to give the visitors a 9 wicket victory.
