Xirona® Le Rouge Cosmetic PigmentEndless possibilities for stable red and pink shades
Xirona® Le Rouge
Endless possibilities for stable red and pink shades
1
Come and experience a new era of pinks and reds in cosmetic colors:
Xirona® Le Rouge opens a multitude of possibilities for exciting,
innovative cosmetic creations.
Xirona® Le Rouge is a red colored powder pigment with a dramatic
red pearlescence. A subtle color travel effect from red to orange-red
adds a touch of mystery. Xirona® Le Rouge offers endless red and pink
shades with maximum stability in cosmetic formulations in combina-
tion with other pearl luster pigments or pure white RonaFlair®
functional fillers. The truly red pigment has a particle size distribution
from 5 to 50 µm and thus provides a satiny to metallic shine effect.
Xirona® Le Rouge is a beautiful and unique addition to our extraordi-
nary series of inorganic color travel pigments based on silica flakes. A
web coating process produces the artificial silica substrate. Silica
flakes of synthetic origin feature an extremely uniform and controlla-
ble thickness as well as a smooth and regular surface. Highly
improved chroma and color purity are the result of these silica flake
characteristics in combination with a precisely controlled metal oxide
coating process.

Xirona® Le Rouge
Inorganic pearlescent red – high stability in your products
The following features of Xirona® Le Rouge lead the way to exciting
new pearlescent shades of pink and red without the use of organic
pigments:
· Maximum light stability
· High chemical and physical stability
· Compatible with, and stable in, aqueous
formulas – no color bleeding
· Stable at different pH values
· Very easy to incorporate into oil or
water phases
· Safe to use without concentration limit
· Purely inorganic nature
· Carmine-free
· No allergy risk
· Ecocert conformity
· Unique red metallic shine
· Subtle color travel effect
· Soft skin feel
2
These listed features show the clear advantage over common red organic lakes or pearl
luster pigments with organic coatings. The ingredients of Xirona® Le Rouge are not
associated with any allergy risk and thus offer an additional advantage over organic
colorants. Another benefit: now, for such Xirona® Le Rouge-based products as an elegant
pink eye shadow, for example, you may use transparent components without the risk of
color-fading.
Xirona® Le Rouge is approved worldwide for use in color cosmetics and personal care
products, including the eye and lip areas, with no limits on usage levels.
Merck confirms that Xirona® Le Rouge, along with the portfolio of cosmetic pigments, is
in compliance with the REACH regulation.

Xirona® Le Rouge
The “first aid” pigment for passionate red and pink cosmetic products
Stable red or pink shades in color cosmetics are difficult to achieve
due to the stability issues of organic colorants and their possible
allergic potential or the unpleasant skin feel of pure iron oxide
powders. In addition, manufacturing-related problems may occur if
organic lakes are used. In formulations with lower pH values, or
especially in water-based systems like emulsions, almost all organic
pigments cause incompatibilities.
Forget about common difficulties when creating red and pink shades
– make use of the multi-talented cosmetic pigment Xirona® Le Rouge.
The addition of interference red, blue or violet effect pigments such
as Timiron® Splendid Colors results in highly stable pink shades.
Depending on the ratio, even delicate pastel pinks can be
developed by blending Xirona® Le Rouge with white or
silverwhite cosmetic pigments or fillers. New sophisticated
effects can be achieved in combination with sparkling
Ronastar® and Ronastar® Sparks pigments.
Employing a small amount of Xirona® Le Rouge (e.g. 0.1 %)
creates delicate pink masstone colors without using any additional
organic color dispersion.
Pink cosmetic formulations are superior in light stability if formulated with Xirona® Le Rouge.
4
Combinations with clear red or bluish-red colorants as background
colors intensify the vibrant red impression of Xirona® Le Rouge.
We recommend using a ratio of 1:9 for organic lake and Xirona®
Le Rouge. The unstable part of the organic colorant is significantly
reduced by using only a very small amount of it while the strong
red shade is intensified in the desired direction.
The incorporation of Xirona® Le Rouge into cosmetic formulations
such as nail polishes, lipgloss, pressed powders as well as gel products
and emulsions follows the same basic rules as those of the well-
known Merck/Rona pigments. There is no limitation on the usage
level of the product. Xirona® Le Rouge disperses well in both oil and
water systems and does not need milling and deagglomeration.
