Adding dialogue to the story

• Use quotation marks ‘‘… …’’ to surround spoken words.

• Put all punctuation marks inside the

quotation marks. ‘‘… …?’’ • Start a new line each time someone new

is speaking.

• Use he said, she asked, said the dog, etc. to let the readers know who is talking.

Read p.62 and point out the similarities and differences in the use of punctuation.
