Online Personal Branding

How to find, create and alter the online (first) impression you make

Introduction to social and online media

The impact of online media on today’s society

Definition of social

The term social refers to a characteristic of living organisms as applied to populations of humans and other animals.

It always refers to the interaction of organisms with other organisms and to their collective co-existence, irrespective of whether they are aware of it or not, and irrespective of whether the interaction is voluntary or involuntary.

Morrison, Ken. Marx, Durkheim, Weber. Formations of modern social thought

Definition of social media

Social media has been broadly defined to refer to ‘the many relatively inexpensive and widely accessible electronic tools that enable anyone to publish and access information, collaborate on a common effort, or build relationships.’

Murthy, Dhiraj (2013). Twitter: Social Communication in the Twitter Age. Cambridge: Polity. pp. 7–8. ISBN 978-0-7456-6510-8.

Rolf Hut

I am a scientist at Delft University of Technology. I solve my problems using a MacGyver attitude. I build measurement devices using scavanged parts from consumer-electronics. I connect existing online data sources to answer relevant scientific questions. I encourage my students to learn by discovering, building and doing.

Erik Scherder

Erik Scherder is professor Clinical Neuropsychology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and professor in Human Movement Sciences at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. His main research topics are:

1) effects of non-pharmacological interventions (including physical activity) on cognition, behaviour, and the sleep-wake rhythm of the elderly (with and without dementia), and people with an intellectual disability;

2) the influence of various types of dementia and intellectual disability on multiple components of pain.

How to create relevant content and interact

Self driving cars are the future of transport

I believe self driving cars are the future of all transport in the whole world because people are the most dangerous aspect in driving today.

Eliminating the human factor will:

- Diminsish human casualties in traffic to nearing 0%

- Solve traffic jams because vehicles will interact and optimise supply and demand

- Optimise the “fuel” needed to move vehicles from A to B

- Minimise the travel time for every human and give insight in ETA (or: gauranteed time of arrival)

Search

Executing my expertise in the self driving car conversation

- Find and follow the experts on self driving vehicles

- Create columns in Twitter with a search query

- Engaging in relevant tweets that other people send out

- Create engaging content (tweets) around self driving

- Retweet with comments

Create a personal brand around healthy treats for kids

BecauseI am convinced that children will be happier and healthier when they eat and drink

less sugar.

I am convinced that it is up to the parents to make a change here.

Do

- You’re the expert in skating in and around Rotterdam- Think of five things you can do to claim this expertise- Work out one of them- Present to your neighbour

Join in and have fun :-)
