SEO concepts

SEO

Keywords The most important SEO concept is that of keywords.

Keywords are the words that people will type into the

search engine when they are looking for your services.

Keyword Examples Counseling

Counselor

EMDR

Specialization and counseling

City and counseling

What are the aspects of SEO a

plug in can change?

Page URL

This is the name of the page. For example www.janedoe.com is a page url.

The above screenshot shows a page url. You can name each page url using your keywords along with a description of what is

found on the page.

Title Tag

This is the title of your page. It can also be known as the Page Title or Meta Title. It is the first line of what shows up

in the search engine results and it is also shown on the top of the browser.

Meta Description

This is the description of your page or services that will show up when a person sees your website come up in

search

Meta Tags

These are keywords that you can put on your site (not seen by the visitor) to tell the search engines about your

content. At this point in time they are considered obsolete

SEO

Can be done with a Plugin

The most highly recommended ones are All in

One and Word Press SEO by Yoast

both have free versions

I use All In One-because i find its linkages to

google easier to do

This is

what your

results will

look like in

search

When

editing page

either click

seo at top or

scroll to

bottom while

in edit mode

to access

seo settings

Measuring Success

What do you want to know

about your website

How people are finding it

What pages are they visiting

Are they returnees

How long are they staying

Bounce rate-how many people leave after

just seeing one page

Google Analytics

Gives you all of this info

You can get it from their site

An app for the ipad-quickalytics

And easily enter the code into your site via

the All In One Seo pack

Analytics page

Analytics page

Quickalytics app

All in one

General settings

Scroll down to

google

If you are signed

into google it will

retrieve you info

Editing Code

Appearance

Editor

Then you will see page with code to edit

On the right are all your places you can

edit

Pick the part of

the page you

want to edit code

for

Always make sure you make a copy of

the original code in a doc before making

a change

Users

For security purposes make sure you

don't stay with the default user of admin

It gives hackers half the info they need to

get into your site.

Change an admin user

Go into the users menu

Add a new user with administrative privileges

Log out

Log in again using the new user name

Then delete admin user

You will be asked if you want posts deleted or

reassigned to the new user-reassign them.

Backup

Within WordPress you can restore a prior

version if you make an error

However, you should get a good back-up

plug in case you are hacked or have any

major problems

You can easily restore a prior

revision if you make a mistake

Updraft plus

Paid back up plugin I use

It does need to back up online though so

you need a free dropbox account

It can be set up to back up before you do

any updates

Make sure discussion is not

checked

Just click back up now

Security

Things to do to improve

security

Keep WordPress and all your plugins updated

Minimizing the number of plugins you use-if you aren't

using it delete it

Have a complex password

Back-Up Regularly

Don't use "Admin" as your user name

Use a good security PlugIn-I use WordFence
