1. Using data from existing files

All of these file types can be opened in Word:• .txt (text file: no formatting)• .rtf (Rich Text Format: text can retail

formatting eg Bold/bullets etc. Can be imported into many different packages.)

• .doc (can only be opened in MS Word)Sometimes when you use existing data in a word processed document, it isn’t always formatted the way you want it.

Task 11. Open Word.

2. Using the Office button, open the file

called First Gear.csv from J:\ICT\Y11\

• Add the Word Count for the document• Save the document to your desktop• Add an automated file name and path

4. Widows and orphans 1• If you start a paragraph of text on

one page but there is not enough room on the page to get the last line typed in, the single line of text which appears at the top of the page ON THE NEXT PAGE is called a widow.

4. Widows and orphans 2• Similarly, sometimes you start a

paragraph of text at the bottom of a page but you can only type in one line before the rest of the text goes on to the next page. This line on its own at the bottom of the page is called an orphan.
