Minerva Foundation The Minerva Foundation is a registered charity that provides education awards to women in need, and delivers a range of unique programs to help women develop their leadership capacity and find meaningful work. From mentoring and coaching to job search support and culturally relevant pro-gramming developed in partnership with Aboriginal women, the Minerva Foundation provides services that elevate the visibility, influence and contribution of women to change the face of leadership in BC. Since 2001, the Minerva Foundation has given away more than $2 million in education awards and touched the lives of more than 3,000 women and girls across British Columbia.
Women Leading the Way™ The Women Leading the Way™ (WLW) program is the third step in Minerva’s suite of leadership programs and is based on the Action Learning Model focused on values-based leadership for advancing leaders. WLW offers a distinctive, hands-on, year-long leadership training program for women who want to have an impact in busi-ness, politics and social change.
The program elevates the visibility, influence, and contribution of women leaders by providing the vital tools, techniques and connections to expand their leadership abilities and enabling them to move into the next phase of their leadership journey.
Each session for WLW brings together 26 – 28 women from all across BC who come from a variety of sectors including business, community institutions, politics, Aboriginal Bands and non-profits. Participants must have at least seven to ten years of leadership experience with a desire to move forward in their careers.
The information and stories shared in this document reflect the journeys of many of the women who have completed Women Leading the Way™ and who are all committed to changing the face of leadership.

Women Leading the Way™ Program Overview
For the first six months of the year, WLW participants come to Vancouver once a month for two days to engage in intensive in-class leadership train-ing. During the final six months of the program the participants are asked to put their leadership skills into action by engaging in a Capstone Project that benefits their communities or their organizations. They are then asked to present their projects to a team of panellists, demonstrating leadership techniques used and leadership lessons developed throughout the program and
subsequent project.

Goals of WLW Program
• To increase the representa-tion of women in leadership roles in business, politics and communities to affect change that will benefit all stakeholders.
• To create a values-based leadership development model that can be adapted to other agencies, corporations and non-profits, nationally and internationally, that better utilizes and develops women in business, political, and social sectors.
Why did you decide to participate in WLW?
I wanted the opportunity to meet and work with influential female leaders and learn from their experience. I thought the program would be invaluable to my development and enhance my leadership skills in a manner that can be applied in the workplace and everyday life situa-tions. In addition to this, have the oppor-tunity to expand my network and build friendships with highly capable women.
What did you learn and how did you apply these learnings?
The Minerva program provided the tools to help me explore my values and how others might perceive me based on my preferences, which in turn has enabled me to start shaping who I am as a leader and how I want to show up.
What is next for you in your leadership journey?
I am leading a team of 25 people through a departmental transformation.
What inspires you?
I mainly get inspiration from three sourc-es: (1) People are incredible; I am always impressed by the ingenious ways that problems are solved, the creativity that exists and the compassion that is shown. (2) I believe in constant personal growth and am always challenging myself with new goals. (3) Running, I find it is a highly effective way to process information.

Why did you decide to participate in WLW?My passion and love for learning has led me to this program when it first was announced as a pilot program. I love to learn something new each day that can be added to my skills and abilities.
What did you learn and how did you apply these learnings?Putting my preference to work and seizing leadership opportunities.
What is next for you in your leadership journey?Continue to build my education skills and take on more work for my company to help where my skills are valuable and useful.
What inspires you? Knowing what my Great Ancestors went through and the pure leadership our women held back in those days inspires me so that we can thrive in this day and the future ahead of us. Not to mention the words of wisdom and legacy of my late grandmother, Mary P. Williams, who in-spires us by living and leading by example of her own life during her time with us.

that the program taught has benefit-ted my own organization and the many boards I have the pleasure of sitting at the table on. Importantly, the program gave me the confidence to pursue graduate work in community development.
