The Earth Machine
is 10.5 cubicfeet (33” x 33”), made of 100% re-cycled plastic and has a 10 yearwarranty. It will compost the foodwaste and some yard waste froma family of five.

a dif fe rent grou p of s tuden ts v is i ts each class room to em pty the pap er
recycling CLUB b ins in to large plast ic bags. The bags are taken outside to
the new recycling trai ler , which was received from TH E CLUB gran t (see
F ebru ary 2000 news le t ter). Th e trai ler is a great ad d it ion to the program
since i t not only provides storage bu t a lso a llows for easy tr an spor ta t ion to

boxes. Now, when th e t railer t ravels throu gh town, there i s no ques tion in
an yone’s m ind about the bu sine s s a t ha nd !
Team e f fort is also eviden t be tween th e local recyclin g facil ity an d th e
school. Stu den ts h elp direct t raffic on h ouseh old h azardous waste collect iondays , m ake and m ain tain birdh ouses at th e recycling facil ity an d re ceive
incom e for th e sch ool recyclables ($250 last year).
Th e Stu den t Cou n cil is also in volved with th e Cartr idges for Kids
Program an d h as a lready earned a lm ost $275 this sch ool year for th e u sed
cartr idges th ey h ave collected from bu siness es, paren ts, coun ty offices, local
offices, an d th e sch ool itself.
As with an y recycling program , edu cation is th e key to su ccess. Th ese
stud ents k eep th e school m ot iva ted by mak ing presenta t ions to teachers ,
crea t ing fun and interest ing posters , developing eye ca tching bu lle t in boards
and having older k ids speak to youn ger k ids on th e imp ortance of recycling.
The resu l t is eviden t , for som et im es it i s the f i rs t graders rem inding th e
teach er of the f in e d etai ls of recyclin g!
The s tu den ts a t P lymouth Elemen tary School are grea t recyclers who
have the enth usiasm an d com m itm ent to keep th e school doing i ts par t in
redu cin g what goes to the land fil l.
Oth ers realize th is - th e St u den t Coun cil has received th e im por tan t rec-
ogn it ion i t deserves from b oth the S chool Board and the S electm en for it s re-
cycling efforts. TH E CLUB congra tu la tes the S tu den t Coun cil!

The Febru ary 2000 n ews le tter h igh l ighted a program called Cartridges for Kids, whichpays sch ools for their em pty toner car tridges. Since THE CLUB first announced the
program:
