Young entrepreneur lives off social mediaTERZEL RASMUS

Young, innovative and inspirational,Russell Julies (24) of Somerset Westhas turned social media into his mealticket.

Since starting his social media consult-ancy, Spiral Social Media, 12 months ago,Julies has enjoyed a level of success fewyoung entrepreneurs know.

Julies founded his company on the ideathat businesses of all sizes are reachinga limitation in their marketing strate-gies. Most businesses, especially start-ups, run the risk of spending too muchon marketing, with limited capital tofund it, but social media can give a com-pany the boost it needs.

“We plan and advise businesses on howto use cross-social media platform adcampaigns,” Julies says. “We use yourdemographic to decipher how to use so-cial media marketing techniques.

“Social media is not the silver bulletto make your business succeed, but if youuse it wisely, your business can grow ex-ponentially.” In this ever globalisedworld, marketing strategies havechanged the business model. “You mustnot only try to compete in the domesticmarket, but you are also competing in theglobal market,” the innovator explains.

Potential young entrepreneurs, hesays, mustn’t wait to start their own busi-nesses X instead, they must simply jumpin.

“You must just start your business,”Julies advises. “Before you start, youdon’t know the formula to succeeding inyour business and you cannot sit aroundand think everything through. You can

only learn as you go.”He also advises young entrepreneurs to

start entering into social exchange trades.“I never paid for my company’s premis-es,” he says. In exchange to set up shop,Julies provided the landlord with his spe-cific brand of expertise. “In this way, youcan also save money if you want.”

At the moment, Spiral Social Media hasbeen hosting workshops to industry-spe-cific businesses, training them to markettheir company brand.

“Studente leer aanlyn in afsondering teen
