wind park of kithnos

The wind park of Kithnos island is one of

the first parks which was made in the

whole world.

This park is placed close to the capital of the island and it had 5 wind turbines to collect energy. The managers of this idea started this project since 1978 but it finally finished at 1982.

This was the reason to build more wind parks at

other island that couldn’t have energy!

In the left photograph we can see where the

island of Kithnos is and in the right photo we

can see other islands with wind parks(the

islands that are coloured blue have wind parks).

5 wind turbines that collect about 20 kW

each.

But unfortunately a wind park can only work

for 30 years, so after those years it closed

because it couldn’t work that well.

Although that now it’s closed, it had achieved

to cover the 75% of electricity of the whole

island instead of the 25% that it was designed

to cover! So we can easily say that it had

worked perfectly!

But because it had stopped working, we

don’t have more information about it. That

doesn’t mean that it’s an unimportant

building! It still remains one of the first wind

parks in the world!
