Does anyone know what is wifi??

What is Wi-FiWi-Fi is short for wireless fidelity. It refers to

a local area network which uses high frequency radio signals to send and receive data over short distances.

A wireless network uses radio waves, just like cell phones, televisions and radios do. In fact, communication across a wireless network is a lot like two-way radio communication. Here's what happens

History of Wi-Fi

Wifi overviewWi-Fi was invented in 1991.Wi-Fi was invented by NCR

Corporation/AT&T.Vic Hayes is known as the father of Wi-Fi

for his invention While working for Agere systems.

Agere Systems suffered from strong competition soon after Vic quit.

SYSTEM OPERATION

How does it works?

WI-FI SYSTEM Consists of 4 main parts:a) High speed access – broadband – internet connection or

transmitter. b) Network Gateway - between the high speed access connection

and the wireless network. – prevents unknown users from accessing the Wi-Fi. Acts like a gate security.

c) Wireless local area network - connects PC or any device to the broadband and establish internet connection.

d) Wireless Customer – Internet users that have device that can access internet.

Wi-Fi transmit radio waves through antenna and routers.

Radio waves received by wireless adapter installed in laptops, Smartphones etc.

As long as it’s within the Wi-Fi coverage area.

Wi-Fi Security

To consider employing other measures to secure your communications after they travel beyond your Wi-Fi network.

Using WPA2 provides both security and privacy for communications.

Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) is the final version of WPA agreed on by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

WPA is a security protocol designed to create secure wireless (Wi-Fi) networks. It is similar to the WEP protocol, but offers improvements in the way it handles security keys and the way users are authorized.

WPA2 can be implemented in two versions:

WPA2-Personal - developed for home and small office use

WPA2-Enterprise - developed for large businesses

Wi-Fi Direct

Wifi direct:Allows Wi-Fi devices to connect to each other without the

need for a wireless access point.

When use? When you share your content, synch your data, socialize,

play games, play audio and video, and more.

How it work?Wi-Fi Direct device will signal to other devices in the area

that it can make a connection. You can view available devices and ask them to connect, or

you might receive an invitation to connect to another Wi-Fi Direct device.

When Wi-Fi Direct-certified devices connect directly, data will transfer after accept another Wi-Fi Direct device.

Wi-Fi hotspots provide wireless Internet access within public areas

The internet speed of wireless network is depending on many factor:The size and configuration of the hotspot.

The number of the concurrent users.

What the user are doing on the network.

Benefit of hosting a hotspotAttract people to your place.Generate additional revenue.Create a private network for your own use.

Setting up the hotspot

Step 1: Gather the necessary

item.

Step 2: Set up the wireless

router.

Step 3: Configure additional settings.

The wireless router should be as close as possible to the hotspot's intended coverage area and preferably in the middle.

Filter Hotspot Content There are few filtering methods to keep the users safer in using the Wi-Fi hotspot:•Filter web content such as block pornography.•Block certain Internet ports to prevent the use of file sharing program and email•Block specific websites.•Block websites based on keywords.

Mobile Wireless Generation

2nd Generation Technology 2G2G comes with GPRS (General Packet Radio

Services) technology.Provide data rates from 56kbit/s up to

115kbits.Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) accessMultimedia Messaging Service (MMS)Internet communication services such as email

and world wide web

3rd Generation Technology 3GOffer users a wider range of more advance

services with greater network capacity.Wireless voice telephony,Video calls,Broadband wireless data in a mobile

environment. Other services for 3G

High Speed Package Access (HSPA) with with speed 14.4Mbit/s downlink and 5.8Mbit/s uplink

GPS (Global Positioning System) Video Conferencing

3G has the following enhancements over 2G and previous network:Enhanced audio and video streamingSeveral times higher data speedVideo-conferencing supportWeb and WAP browsing at higher speedIPTZ (TV through the internet) support.

4th Generation Technology 4G4G refer to cellular wireless standards. It is extension in the 3G technology with

more bandwidth and services offers.4Gtechnologys is basically the high quality

audio/video streaming over end-to-end internet protocol.

Wi-FiAPPLICATIONS

Absence of wires. The network is based on wireless Wi-Fi technology which does not require using the telephone or any other lines of

connection based on wires.

New horizons. First of all is mobility. Your are not tied up to your

working place any more still having connection with based, e-mail, colleagues and friends.

Possibility of some mobility. Since you are not tied up to wires, you can easily

change location of your computer not worrying about connection withdrawal (in the cover area of access

point).High-speed access to internet.

A high-speed access to internet is offered for network subscribers, speed of channel is 108Mbit/sec. Meanwhile,

there is no necessity for ringing up or connection defining, etc. You are always on-line and to be connected

to internet it is just enough to open your browser.

Any kind of intranet information exchange. Your intranet communication is no how limited and you can send

any files, communicate in chat, play network games, etc.

ADVANTAGES OF Wi-Fi

Interference. Because your Wi-Fi equipment uses radio waves (probably in the 2.4 GHz frequency band), it can be vulnerable to interference from household devices like microwaves and cordless phones. Your neighbor's wireless network can also be a source of interference.

Updating your older computer. If your computer isn't equipped for Wi-Fi, you will have to buy and install a Wi-Fi card that's compatible with your PC. Or, if your computer has an older 802.11b card, you may want to update it to work with your faster 802.11g network. In either case, you can expect to spend up to $100 for a new card.

Privacy concerns. You may be wondering whether information you transmit from your laptop wirelessly can be intercepted. That's possible, and it's also possible for hackers to use your access point to connect to the Internet.
