The process of alnico magnet manufacturing is unique and is very popular for use in industries and is produced using different processes like casting and sintering. It is so called because it is a composition of aluminium, nickel and cobalt, also including copper and sometimes titanium.

Many factors result in its popularity;
It has excellent stability under extreme temperatures and also has a high residual induction unlike ceramic magnets.
Unlike other magnets it can be produced in a variety of shapes including horseshoes, blocks, disks etc. and have a high resistance to corrosion.
These magnets are used in sensing devices and holding applications. Also meters and machinery, electric motors and are popularly used in guitar pickups.
As alnico magnets are hard and brittle, it needs a special process for production as it cannot be drilled or machined by the normal procedures.

Its alloys are ferromagnetic and have a high resistance to loss of magnetism and are therefore used in permanent magnets.
Casting the magnet requires treatment with various heat cycles after being poured into a cast. This creates a dark colour and gives the magnet a shiny appearance.
Sintering requires pushing powdered alnico into a press and then sintering it which turns it into a solid.
