Trip to Viña del Mar
• The weekend after Thanksgiving, we took a 6 hour night bus south
• We did a lot of sight-seeing
Geographic Forms
• Chile has a wide range of geographic forms
• Some of these include:– Andes Mountains– Coastlines– Deserts– Frozen land
Easter Island
• This island is hundreds of miles off the coast of Chile but it is still a part of the country.
• Statures like this stand on the island but no one knows why they were built
Climate
• The climate varies from the Northern part of Chile to the Southern part– It is hot and dry in the North– It is cold and wet in the South
• In the center part of the
country, it is green and
warm. This is where you
find the vineyards.
• The official language of Chile is Spanish
• Spanish is not the only language spoken there– English is being taught in the school systems– German→ in the Southern part of the country– Some Indigenous languages like Mapuche
Famous People
• Gabriela Mistral was the 1st Latin American to win the Noble Prize for Literature in1945
• She was from the Elqui Valley
• Pablo Neruda also won the Noble Prize in 1971
• This is his home in Vaparaíso

different shapes and sizes

• El 18 de septiembre– Like the 4th of July for
the US– Parades,
performances and much more
• La Navidad• La Semana Santa
and La Pascua– Parades
• There are many different types of food– Cuezla – Carne de juego– Emanadas– Sea food– Pebre– Chilean Ensalada– Conpetos
• Chileans like a lot of meat and will have it for most all their meals
Sports and Games• Soccer or fútbol
– Chile is going to the World Cup this year!
• Rodeo is also popular• Kids Games
– Emboque– Trompo
Money
• The Chilean pesos are very colorful and each color has a different value
• It takes 500 Chilean pesos to make $1 US dollar.
• They use bills and coins
Fun Facts
• Chile has the driest desert in the world– The Atacama Desert
• Calama is a town in the desert that has never seen rain– This makes it the driest place in the world
• Penguins live on small
islands in Northern Chile.
