Now The Techy Stuff…Photos and iTunes are just dressed up databases.

There is only ONE Photos library that syncs in iCloud

Photos System Library

iCloud syncing only works with the System Photo Library

Multiple Photo Libraries

On Launch of Photos hold down the Option key

To see your photos library or create a new one….

Mac Feature

/Users/bruce/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary

Why would you want more than one Photos library?

Grand kids

You don’t want anyone messing with your photos. You have a business and you want to keep that stuff separate.

These options are not available on the Photos appon an iPad and iPhone

Behind the scenes things are hiddenIt is a different OS

Can’t add library in iOS

Have Precious Photos? Save Elsewhere

File > Export Then designate a folder or location

Then designate a location or make a new folder ….

How to use the Photos library repair tool If your Photos library won't open, or if Photos behaves unexpectedly, the Photos library repair tool might resolve the issues. Follow these steps to use the Photos library repair tool:

1.Hold down Option-Command while you open Photos.2.Click Repair to start the repair process.3. Type in your user account password to authorize the library repair. The repair tool analyzes the the library's database and repairs any inconsistencies it detects. Photos relaunches.

If you repair a library that's automatically updated with iCloud Photo Library, the entire contents of the library re-updates with iCloud after the repair process completes.

Be Patient

Photos performs 11 billion computations on every photo to analyze its contents for faces, scenes, and objects. While Photos is good at recognizing faces, it’s terrible at putting names to those faces.

Live Photos and People Recognition

Photos has matured since its introduction.

Use what you have, whether on a Mac, iPad or iPhone

Sync to the iCloud and continue on your Mac.

Experiment and have fun.

What follows are reference slides about HEIF and HEVC.HEIF is a photo file format. HEVC is video format.

This would pertain to users of iPhone 7s and later and 2017 iPad Pro models.

New Photo File Format HEIC High Efficiency Image Container in place of jpg

Started in iOS11 with iPhone 7 and newer 2017 iPad Pro Requires High Sierra 10.13 on Mac

Apple calls it HEIC C is for Container

Advantage: Better Quality and Less File Space

You can turn off using HEIF in iOS settingshttps://www.lifewire.com/what-is-heif-4145411

Shot as JPG

3.2 MB File

Live Photo HDR

HEIC not JPG 1.6 MB file

HEIC 50% smaller than the JPG

Both images had almost same pixel dimensions.

Limited function on older Mac OS and older iOS devices.

Capturing this media When using iOS 11, the following devices can capture media:

• iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus or later• iPad Pro (10.5 inch)• iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation)

If you're using iCloud Photo Library with iOS 10 or macOS Sierra or older, you might see in the upper-right corner of the photo or video, or you might see an alert message.

Issue on an older 2009 iMac which can’t be upgraded.

When you Share photos it will convert them to JPG.

New Video File FormatHEVC High Efficiency Video Coding

also called H.265Better video compression than mp4Successor to H.264 /AVC advanced video coding

Again works in High Sierra and newer iPhones iPad ProTo check if your device's camera is capturing video in HEVC, go to Settings -> Camera -> Formats, and ensure the "High Efficiency" option is selected. You can also turn it off.
