Loose Connective Tissue

Tissue between organs or tissues and is elastic.

Adipose (35 ©)

Tissue that surrounds organs and protects as padding (covers structures like kidneys).

Reticular (36 ©)

Helps fight against microorganisms, and is “the framework of the spleen, lymph nodes, and bone marrow” (10).

Dense Regular Fibrous

(37 ©)

The collagenous fibers that make up the tissue are set in parallel rows. Structures made from this fibrous are strong yet flexible (10).

Dense irregular Fibrous

(35 ©)

Not arranged in parallel rows, “form the strong inner skin layer called the dermis” (10).

One of the structures composing the skeleton of a vertebrate. The hard connective tissue forming the substance of the skeleton of most vertebrates, composed of a collagen-rich organic matrix impregnated with calcium, phosphate, and other minerals

Bone

Hyaline cartilage is a type of body tissue, also called gristle. It is shiny, slippery, firm, translucent, and bluish-gray in color. Hyaline cartilage is simple in structure, with no nerves or blood vessels. It has high elasticity and helps cushion and protect bones. The word hyaline comes from the Greek for glassy, and refers to the translucence of the tissue.

Hyaline Cartilage

Fibrocartilage is a type of cartilage which is very rich in type I collagen, and found in areas such as the meniscus of the knee, the pubic symphysis, and the vertebral discs. This type of cartilage is especially strong and durable, so it appears in areas where these traits are needed.

Fibrocartilage

Elastic cartilage is histologically similar to hyaline cartilage but contains many yellow elastic fibers lying in a solid matrix. These fibers form bundles that appear dark under a microscope. These fibers give elastic cartilage great flexibility so that it is able to withstand repeated bending

Elastic Cartilage

Blood is a specialized bodily fluid in animals that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells.
