Directors Corner
Fity our years ago Westlawn Gospel
Chapel was planted in North Lawndale, a
westside Chicago neighborhood, ully in
the throes o an ethnic upheaval known
as white ight. From 1950-1960 the com-
munity changed rom white to black.
Businesses and services let almost entirely
by the 60s and 70s. The 80s brought a
book about the neighborhood entitled,
Americas Milestone-An Examination othe Permanent Under-class. And nally by
the 90s, Lawndale was considered one o
the orgotten inner city neighborhoods in
Chicago.
Throughout these decades o upheaval
and change, Westlawn Gospel Chapel has
continued as a lighthouse and signpost
o the Kingdom o God! Starting with
neighborhood bible studies and then
expanding to Awana Programs, Sunday
School, Vacation Bible School, and summercamps. All o these eventually grew into
a comprehensive youth program called
Westlawn Youth Network.

resources, have been a part o what God
has done and continues to do here on the
