NFC mobile phones are smart phones that use NFCtechnology.
It has multiple utilities.
Integrate applications of both contactless cards and mobilephones.
Communicate within a short distance.
Helps in easy and secure transfer of data between twosystems.

Most obvious of the three.
NFC enabled smart phones can be used as a credit or debitcard.
Just tap your phone against an NFC-enabled reader.
IDs like driver's licenses and passports can be replaced oraugmented with NFC.
Even keys could someday become a relic of the past, replaced by the tap of a phone to a lock.

Use like QR codes.
Tags scannable by your cellphone camera are
now use. NFC smartphone can interact either with
another active NFC device or with a passive
tag.
Without opening a new application and take a
picture.

Reduce configuration of bluetooth.
Need not remember complex WI-FI
passwords.
Tap your phone to another phone to transfer
data.

Use NFC(Near Field Communication) technology.
For short range high frequency wireless
communication.
Based on Radio Frequency Identification(RFID).
Communicate within a distance of 10 cm.
Magnetic field induction enable communication.
It is an extension of ISO 14443 proximity-cardstandards.

Frequency band 13.56 MHz.
Data transfer rate 424/848 kbps.
Distance of communication 20 cm.
Band width range 14 KHz.
Works via Magnetic field induction.

NFC has 3 modes of communications
1. Peer to Peer mode
is defined for device to device link-
level communication2. Read/Write mode
allow transmission of NFC formdefined messages
3. NFC Card Emulation mode
allow the NFC-handset behave as astandard Smartcard

Active mode
Two active devices communicate with eachother. Each device has to generate its own RF field,if itwants to send data. The RF field is alternately generatedby one of the two devices.
Passive mode
In this mode the communication takes place between anactive and a passive device. The passive device has no battery
and uses the RF field generated by the active device.

1. MANCHESTER CODE
* use in passive mode*use in active mode
when data rate > 106 kbps
2. MODIFIED MILLER CODE* use in active mode mode
when data rate is 106 kbps

Initiator
* one who wish to communicate and startcommunication.
Target
* receives initiators request and sent back areplay.
Very less chance for collision. initiator can sent dataonly when the target is ready.

The general protocol flow can be divided into
The initialization protocoland
Transport protocol.

Collision avoidance.
Selection of target.
where the initiator determines the communication
mode(active or passive) and chooses the transfer
speed.

The transport protocol is divided in three parts :
Activation of the protocol, which includes the
Request for Attributes and theParameter Selection.
The data exchange protocol, and
The deactivation of the protocol including theDeselection and the Release.

NFC and RFID
- Both support active mode of
communication.
- Only NFC support communication b/w
active and passive devices.

Bluetooth
- Shorter set-up time for NFC.
- NFC reduce time for manual configurations to
identify the others phone- The connection between two NFC devices is
established at once (
