Early Morning activities

Your child will be expected to come into the classroom, put their things away and start their morning task.

The class morning tasks will include maths, English, dictionary work, spelling and reading.

Some children may also have personalised early morning work which focuses on a specific target they have.

Expectations

Each day, we expect the children to come into school wearing the Bramley School Uniform.

We advise them to bring in a named water bottle.

All jumpers/cardigans/PE kit should be named.

Children are not allowed pencil cases as we provide everything the children need.

P.E.

We do have set PE days each week, however if we are unable to complete outdoor PE on the specific day we may move it to another time. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in a named bag. PE bags tend to go home at half-term.

This term outdoor PE is on Monday and indoor PE is on Tuesday.

Indoor: Navy or black shorts with light blue PE polo Shirt

Outdoor: As indoor, together with a change of socks, training shoes/ plimsolls and tracksuits (without obvious logos) during the colder months.

Homework

Reading

Becoming a confident, fluent reader is an essential life skill. To record the reading your are doing at home, your child should take their planners home

everyday and any reading done should be recorded. We expect all children to read at least 3 times a week.

In the planners, there are ideas for questions to ask your child before, during and after reading to continue to develop their comprehension skills as well as

their decoding skills.

Maths

Practise times tables with your children. This can be using Times Table Rock Stars or any way you wish with your children.

Spellings

All children will have 10 spellings to learn each half-term and there will be a quiz at the end of each half term to check how the children are getting on.

Year 3 Autumn Topic

We Will Rock You!

We have started the term by exploring rocks. The children have looked at rocks that appear in the game Minecraft. During the term we will be learning about how rocks, soils and fossils are formed.

Outcome events

Each term, we will have an outcome event based on the topic the children have been learning about.

Parents are invited in so that children can share their work. We may also have additional activities that parents can help their child with.

These events usually take place at 2.30pm. Here is an example of our Year 3 outcome events:

Autumn 1- We Will Rock You documentaries

Autumn 2 – Victorian Day Making a Victorian Toy

Spring 1- Lights, Camera, Action Puppet Show

Summer – 1 – French Café

Year 3 School Trips

In the Summer Term we will be going on a school trip to Gilbert White’s house to develop our map reading skills for our Pirates topic.

Please help us with Art Shirts and Newspaper!

The children wear protective clothing for Art & Craft, Food Technology and some elements of Design Technology work.

Children may bring their own art overall or old T shirt to wear. Again these should be clearly marked with the child’s name.

We appreciate newspapers to cover our tables but please can you take out inappropriate pages first.

PlannersPlanners have been adapted following feedback from this year. Year 3/ 4 planners are blue.

Your child’s planner is expected to be taken home everyday and brought back into school the following day.

Planners will include:

-A weekly reading record

-Star Charts

- Spellings for Yr 1-6

Parent Volunteers

• We always love having parent volunteers in school to help children with reading, times tables and spelling during the afternoon.

• If you are able to volunteer any time please speak to your class teacher.
