Forthcoming Films for 2018 January - April
Friday 26th January HAMPSTEAD (12A) An American widow (Diane Keaton) finds unexpected love with a man
(Brendan Gleeson) living wild on Hampstead Heath when they take on the developers who want to destroy his home.
“Overall, Hampstead is a cute, entertaining comedy, if rather shallow, exploring the relationship of two older characters with a fascinating
backdrop of events. It creates a warm feeling through the cinematography and script, highlighting the importance of not caring about one’s image.”
With Brendan Gleeson, Diane Keaton & Simon Callow
Friday 23rd February LIMEHOUSE GOLEM (15)From the novel by Peter Ackroyd. In high Victorian London, a newly
promoted police inspector, John Kildare, is charged with investigating a gruesome series of Ripper‐type killings in the East End, attributed to a
terrifying "golem", a monster from Judaic mythology. Kildare narrows down the possible candidates to 4: Karl Marx, George Gissing, the cross‐dressing music‐hall star Dan Leno, and an unsuccessful playwright and journalist called John Cree, who is dead, apparently poisoned by his wife Lizzie. As
Lizzie stands to hang for the murder, Kildare works furiously to prove her innocence.
Friday 23rd March VICTORIA AND ABDUL And finally, what will undoubtedly be the huge hit of the season. The extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s (Judi
Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. The two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. As the friendship deepens, the Queen begins to see a changing world through new eyes and joyfully
reclaims her humanity.
Friday 27th April MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (12A) Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in this new version of Agatha Christie’s novel, in which
the Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot finds himself stranded on a snowbound train in company with thirteen strangers and a corpse. There cannot be a person in the world
who does not know the outcome, so the fun will be watching a cast of top‐notch performers including Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and many
more go through their paces.

Children of Hilgay and Ten Mile Bank Riverside Academies have wrapped and filled shoeboxes with gifts to send to children in poverty this year. Pictured here with Head Teacher, Mrs Sarah Turner, are the children who took part and gave generously to the appeal, with some of the many boxes being sent via the charity Samaritan's Purse. Over 40 boxes have been given through the schools and the community, co‐ordinated by Parent Governor of the schools. Kit King

Hilgay Riverside Academy – Head Teachers Report
As some of you may already know, we are in the process of having two new classrooms built. The old Horsa
Hut, which many past pupils will remember as the school canteen as well as being a space for Collective
Worship and PE lessons in poor weather, has been taken down and the new classrooms built behind the main
school. We will be holding an open evening for local people and past pupils once the work is completed.
We have enjoyed a busy term so far with many fun learning activities as part of our topic: Weird World. Our
younger children have been to Banham Zoo and have learnt about animals and their babies. The older children
have learnt about tsunamis, volcanoes and earthquakes and they have enjoyed simulating these natural
events on a small scale in their classroom.
Since half term, we have made weekly visits to the church for our Collective Worship led by Father James. We
are fortunate to have a new teacher, Mrs Molnar, who is able to play the organ which has been delightful to
hear!
Page 6
Christmas is always a busy time of year. We gave two performances of The Bossy King, a nativity story
performed with acting and singing. The 15th will take us to Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre to watch the
Pantomime, Cinderella (oh yes it will!) On the 18th we will once again be at the Church for our Christingle
service with Father James Mather, parents and friends.
We currently have vacancies for school governors – please get in touch if you would like further details.

Hilgay Silver Band
TRAINING BAND
We have changed the name of the Youth Band to TRAINING BAND. The reason for this is to hopefully encourage more adults to learn to play. You don’t have to be a young person to learn to play as we have adults in the band who learnt to play in their adult years. We will loan you an instrument to play and teach you to read music if you need it ALL FREE OF CHARGE. If anyone is interested please phone Brian Doy on 01366 387630. The Senior Band would welcome a drummer.

A Year in the life of a Village Chapel Hilgay Methodist Church was built to be a place of worship and a house of prayer. However during 2017, it has also been ……….. A Sporting Venue – home of Hilgay Carpet Bowls Club, A Meeting place for all ages, A “pop‐up” café , A Rehearsal space for DADs and the village school, A Dance Studio, A safe place for children to play and do all kinds of other activities, A party venue, including for our popular pancake party, A place for reflection on Remembrance Sunday, A place of celebration, transformed for a wedding. And now we are looking forward to Christmas.

General Hilgay Matters
A meeting was held in Hilgay Village Hall on Tuesday 14th November to talk about Crime Prevention. Sargent Hemeter and P.C. Smith from Downham Market Police Station attended along with 48 members of the public. The police talked to the audience about recent crime and assured them that compared to a lot of villages, Hilgay has a low crime rate with no new reports of burglary reported last month. In the last two months there have been 25 calls for police to come to Hilgay consisting of alcohol, mental health, firework and road parking related issues. However, there have been some burglaries this year and the police advised us on various ways to protect our property. They took questions from the audience and left us with leaflets and stickers and a re‐assurance that all reported crime would be followed up. People who were interested in starting up a “Neighbourhood Watch” scheme left their email addresses and will be having another meeting later to hopefully set this up.
Cllr Jane Heatrick
The following Saturday Nigel Congdon attended a meeting at Downham Market police station to discuss the setting up of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Hilgay. Should you want to know more please contact Nigel Congdon on 07798 700561
Street Lighting In the next edition of the Riverside News it is hoped that a map showing the Parish Councils Street lights will be included.

Ten Mile Bank Riverside Academy
Ten Mile Bank Riverside Academy – Head Teachers Report Our little school is full of fun and learning! Our oldest children have enjoyed an Animal Encounter when
exotic creatures were brought into school as part of our Weird World topic. Parents have joined us for two
Family Cafes: the first was based on Stick Man with the children using their maths skills to create their own
stick men and the second a glittery afternoon of Christmas decoration making. We have raised money for
Children in Need with a spotty and sparkly non‐uniform day and a bake sale with cookies and cakes baked by
the children. We have visited the church twice this term. Firstly, for our harvest festival and secondly, to lay a
poppy wreath on behalf of the parish for Remembrance Day.
KS2, with their team mates from Hilgay, have taken part in various sports events including cross country;
badminton and a hockey festival. Archie (TMB: Year 3) and Maisy (Hilgay: Year 3) are through to the next
round for cross country – well done to them both!
Christmas is always a busy time of year. We gave two performances of The Magical Jigsaw, a nativity story
performed with acting and singing. The 15th will take us to Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre to watch the
Pantomime, Cinderella (oh yes it will!) On the 18th we will once again be at St.Marks Church for our
Christingle service with Father James Mather, parents and friends.
We currently have vacancies for school governors – please get in touch if you would like further details.

We would like to thank everyone for the kind donations and support over the last year and have
several great things in the pipe line for next year from a Bingo Night in January to a Valentine

Easter Service – 25th March at 11:00, followed by and Easter Egg Hunt with light refreshments, all welcome
Throughout 2017 Ten Mile Bank village have successfully raised money in community events, this includes a well‐attended Easter egg hunt unfortunately some eggs were never found. Summer came along and another chance for a cake stall with the friends of the school after fours hours it was completely sold out. In the autumn we organised a traditional Harvest Family Service, followed by our local people's generous donation of farming produce auctioned by Father Alan Davies. Thank you to all the ladies for their hard work baking cakes and continuing to support us. Coming to the end of the year, we have joined forces with The Riverside Academy and the Village Hall Committee to put together a well‐received Food and Craft Fair. As always our Christmas Eve Carol service is the most exciting event of the year, with Santa's surprise visit.

Can you help Healthwatch Norfolk? Have your say on your children’s NHS dental care!
Healthwatch Norfolk (www.healthwatchnorfolk.co.uk) are doing a project about NHS dental services for children and young people (anyone under the age of 18) in West Norfolk and would like to hear from parents/guardians!
To understand more about the dental services that are being used, how accessible these are and the experiences of services for children, Healthwatch Norfolk would like you to answer a short anonymous survey.
The people who make decisions about health and social care in Norfolk have to listen to you, through them and they are here to influence the way NHS services are planned and delivered. Your answers can help make a difference. Follow the link for more information about why they are doing this, how your stories help and to complete this short survey: bit.ly/RiversideWNDental
