Team 6-1 Goal

To increase parent, teacher, and student involvement in the education process

in order to meet the needs of all students.

Parent Night

• Purpose: For you to leave with a better understanding of our curriculum and team practices, as well as meet the teachers and see student work. – Conference Sign-up

• Non-purpose: Individual teacher conferences.

Common Core

• IL State Standards v. Common Core– Concept Driven– Problem Solving – Real World Application & Readiness

Language

• Being a Writer, will focus on different genres using the writing community

• Little homework• After each genre a

paper is due worth 60 points.

• Points between papers are small, assignments are skill checks or exit slips.

Literature

• Using the Holt program school wide• Teaching elements of literature

through short stories and novels• Novel studies used to reinforce

literary skills • Reading Responses

Mathematics

• Math I– Piloting the

Common Core Curriculum

Social Studies

Ancient Civilization through Explorers

Learn the components of a civilization

Discover key geographic features factor into a civilizations success

The rises and sometimes fall of civilizations

Egypt Museum is October 24th. Please try to attend.

As investigators of the past we will:

Science

• Scientific method.

• In science we have adopted Fusion curriculum. For each of the three units we are teaching the students will be receiving a workbook.

• Three units we cover:– Earth’s Water &

Atmosphere– The Dynamic Earth– Space Science

Advisory• Not an everyday study hall• Time to connect with our students

and incorporate real life skills & strategies for:– Organization– Peer pressure– Conflict resolution– Interventions– Agenda

Conferences • Sign up with you

Literature/Language• If you have questions for other

academic teacher. Please e-mail concerns as soon as they occur

Grades

• We are on the standard grading scale• Students are responsible for their assignments• Homework grades are not more than 10% of

total grade, it is important to do homework so we can see who needs extra help BEFORE assessments.

• Students will be allowed to retake tests if they receive a D or F. They need to retake the assessment on their own time within a week for an averaged grade.

• Please check PowerSchool for your child’s grade.

• Grades will be posted one week from assignment due date, with the exception of large projects or papers.

Additional Help

• As needed by request from the student, parent or teacher.

• Study Club: not a detention, a time to make up work, and get extra help.

Tuesday and Thursday 3:00-3:45 Wednesday 7:15- 7:40
